Hi, Im 29 been ttc for over 2 years, was referred to fertility clinc by my GP a year ago. Throughout the last year I have had scans both ultra sound and internal also by cosy. Hy cosy looked clear both tubes seem to be ok, although scans showed I hve pcos. Looking back now I have classic symptoms.

I finally have my app in a few weeks with fertility to look over all test results, also my partners sperm looks to be ok. So was wondering if anyone has been through the same and did fertility doctor put you on clomid etc right away, I can't bear to be told to keep trying for another 6 months or so. I use ovulation tests and have had 2 positives in the last year so I may be ovulating some months. I'm maybe a stone overweight and since finding out I have changed my diet and am excersining more. First time ttc. Thanks. X

I hadn't had all these tests done when I was first referred to fertility clinic but once they had all been done (at the clinic) yes I was put on clomid straight away.
You say you're a stone overweight, what is that in terms of BMI? Some (maybe all) clinics have a max BMI for commencing treatment. That's the only thing I can see preventing you getting going right away.
I wouldn't mention the ovulation tests, I never bothered with OPKs/temp charting etc but some women on the infertility board did and the doctors never seemed to take much notice of it, especially because PCOS and other conditions can affect the results.

OPKs and PCOS are uneasy companions; such kits measure LH and many PCOSers have an excess of this hormone to start with. The kits may well have just read that excess, false positive results are very common.

The clinic should do further blood tests, internal ultrasounds and semen analyses again, it is no point solely testing you without his tests being done in tandem. Any test results over six months old should be discounted, you both need up to date test results.

Both of you should attend this appointment with the clinic. Such appts can lead to considerable nerves and both of you can give the other mutual support. I would also write down any questions you want to ask them well ahead of time, you do not want to leave there thinking, "oh I should have asked about xyz etc".

Clomid should be given with a degree of caution to PCOSers as clomid resistance is not unknown. Also not all women with PCOS are actually suitable candidates to take this drug treatment in the first place if their levels of LH are very high (clomid can increase LH levels). If you are given clomid you should be monitored closely whilst on it, no monitoring is not at all acceptable. It should also be given only for a max of six months after which time other treatments should be tried.

Many PCOSers find using a low GI/GL eating plan helpful as it is more sustainable in the longer term.

Hi all, thanks for your replies.

Ultra sounds, internal scans, blood tests, hy cosy and semen samples all have been done in the past few months, leading up to this app with consultant. My 21 day blood test( I've had for the past year every month more or less) always seem to be out of range or low with the odd normalise range, nothing consistent. My gp says this is prob due to pcos. All the diff docs seem to think the same that pcos is the issue and that I'm maybe ovulating some months. One of my ovaries is def pcos and the other borderline.

My bmi is 24.1 and is within normal range although I'm slightly overweight. I've stopped drinking caffeine and alcohol completely in the last 2 months since finding out and am "clean eating" and also going to the gym more. I am losing weight slowly (prob have a stone to lose although my GP seems happy enough with my weight, just said not to put any on).

I also had a laparoscopy a few months back to remove a dermoid cyst, gyno says this is unrelated to any problems conceiving.

Fingers crossed at my next app I will be giving treatment I only hope that as one of my ovaries is border line that they don't tell me to keep trying naturally and more time passes with no luck.

Thanks again for your advice and good luck to everyone x
