Pain after d&c

Hi ladies I'm looking for some much needed advice.
Had a d&c done in April at 14 weeks pregnant as baby had a cystic hygroma. Never had a period for the months that followed that but had severe period pain. Went private after being fobbed off by gp for weeks and had a hysteroscopy which showed retained tissue from pregnancy which was mildly infected. After surgery I had a water infection so had antibiotics to treat, as was still having pain and uti taking lots.
This has since passed and it has been nearly a month since surgery, I went for follow up appointment last week and got all clear from biopsy. Problem is for two days I have had lower abdominal/uterus pain which was similar to that before hysteroscopy. I'm so worried that there is something more wrong with me than what was thought. I will add I did have sex twice the day before the pain started but I had already had it once after the surgery and had no pain. When I wiped after intercourse there was blood stained discharge (sorry!) and it felt slightly uncomfortable when in certain positions. I'm terrified this may be pointing to endometreosis??
That's the last thing I need after a year of hell. Does anyone have any similar experience or advice as to what is going on?
I'm about to go to see my gp today in the hope they may say its a uti??
Any advice would be greatly appreciated xx

Hey. I've had similar: had a TOP for medical reasons, followed by an infection treated with ABs which didn't work, more ABs which still didn't work, numerous scans which revealed RPOC and then, finally, a D&C. I had a lot of nasty symptoms including lower abdo pain, intermittent bleeding, lots of watery discharge, frequent urination, feeling sick, and some itchiness down there. I had two or three uterine infections all in all. Sounds to me like you might have another. Can you go back to the ward where the D&C was done? I know I had open access to gynae for a good while - which was fortunate, as I turned up in the middle of the night after work on a few occasions! I just told them I thought I had an infection and they gave me more ABs. When this didn't work, I had scans, which revealed retained blood clots. When I didn't pass this naturally, I had a D&C. You may need another D&C (I had a MC shortly after all this, and STILL didn't pass things, so had to have another D&C - this one as an emergency admission), which isn't great, but cleared up the problem for me.

Thanks for replying to me. I would love to have open access to hospital! I have been to the emergency room today as the pains are still there and an intense pressure when I urinate, but no increased frequency, burning, discharge or anything else. They gave me different antibiotics and said it was more than likely down to uti and constipation! I don't for one second think it is, I am beginning to think it may be something more is sinister. I know what you are saying about a d&c but I've had two this year and the doctor assures me they removed all rpoc so I dont know what else it could be? I feel like a zombie walking around going through the motions and taking pain killers and not knowing what is wrong with me. I feel so low and just want to be well. The gp has took samples of urine to be sent off to lab and they will be back Tuesday as water sample cam snack clear from emergency room today because doc said they antibiotics i was taking would mask it. If test comes back from gp who took sample before I started antibitoics as no I fiction then I am back where I started before second d&c/hysteroscopy.
Any advice?? Going out my mind

I'm sorry to hear all of that. I can't give any advice but if it turns out to be endo, I hope it gives you hope when I say my best friend has it and conceived naturally after five months. Good luck to you.

Ames : as much as they may have 'assured' you, unfortunately they can't be sure as they can't see what they're doing. No camera/scan/etc is used - it's all done by feel, so it's perfectly possible that something remains, as it did with me. Obviously, that starts going off, so to speak, after a while and makes you ill. They may be right about the UTI - they can be really nasty and completely floor people, especially those who are already unwell/under the weather, which would include you at the moment after all your body has been through, but don't be afraid to go right back to GP/hosp if the antibiotics don't have much effect. Have you bled yet? If not, I think you should harass your GP about this too: you should bleed within 4-6 weeks of a D&C. As you haven't, and there's a potential infection, your body isn't getting rid of anything that might be causing a problem.

Thank you both for your replies.
I had results back form lab and I have no uti so I went to the emergency room last night as the pain is still constant. They told me they didn't think at this stage there was a need for a scan as they assured me all tissue was removed in the hysteroscopy so they didn't know what a scan would be showing. I asked for a second opinion from a senior doctor and she said the same. She was very throrough, she looke at pics from my scan before hysteroscopy was done and said there was no problem with my ovaries or tubes, all smears are up to date and that she highly doubts endometrosis. She sent me home with buscopan which is for ibs syptoms which is why she thinks I'm having Collicky wind pains and she thinks my body is getting ready for a big bleed. The pains have now gone into my back and it feels very much like period pains but for 6 days???? I don't see how it would last this long, but I don't k ow what else could be wrong with me??? I'm terrified x

Don't be terrified hun. You've had a big nasty procedure and your body is going to take a while to be ok again. It's really good news that there's no UTI and that your uterus and ovaries are ok - take that as a massive positive. If endometriosis is unlikely, I don't think there's much else that can reasonably be going wrong. Feel free to go back and pester them if it doesn't ease off, but for now take the buscopan (good stuff, incidentally) along with some paracetamol and fingers crossed for a period. You'll be ok Smile x

Thank you raraz I appreciate you taking time to reply to me and reassure me. I just think it seems very unlikely to be having period type pains for almost a week and have no period?! I can see myself having to go private again to get a scan as nhs are so reluctant to do it and a referral from gp is also a pain as it is around 6 weeks to wait.
I don't see how senior doctor could rule out endometreosis without any I vesting action though. Just don't know what to do as pain killers aren't even touching pain in abdo and back xxx

Hi Ames

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss and everything that's happened since. I had a termination for medical reasons (T18) nearly 4 years, I too had horrendous cyclical period pain but no period. It turns out I had something called Ashermans Syndrome, which is essentially scar tissue in the uterus. There is a great website called www.ashermans.org with lots of information and a link to a great Yahoo support group. I think it's definitely worth having a look and trying to rule it out. Please feel free to PM me if I can help any further.

Take care

X
