How long to have a normal cycle after implant was taken out

Got my implant taken out but no AF. I wanted to start ttc so I googled it and have scared myself that the implant can mess you up for a while. How long did it take for you to be back to normal?

I had my implant removed last November, had first AF 6 weeks later. My cycles have kinda been a bit all over the place since, cycles have been. 32, 31,28,53,42,31 currently on day 39 of which I think may be a 44 day cycle if I go by BBT. Gp isn't too concerned as she states it can take a year for your cycles to settles down. But then it is important to remember everyone is different and yours may settle quickly.

Thanks for reply.
I was told my cycle will be completely back to normal imediately and not to take it out until I wanted to start ttc. So I'm now looking at the Internet hearing from other people that this is not correct. I feel a bit lied to about my own body. Grrrhhhh.
Best of luck to you (I assume your ttc with that kinda knowledge about your cycles).

I know how you feel when you say you feel lied to. I feel exactly the same. I had the implant because it sounded perfect - a few years of no worries then have it taken out and boom back to normal. Not so much. I waited 6 months for first AF then 2 months for another. I feel more relaxed now but I drove myself crazy the first 6 months. It was awful because I was always wondering if I was pregnant - every day. No 2 week wait. I bought some internet cheapy pregnancy tests from Ebay and took 1 a week. It made me feel better for a little while.
I still haven't been given a clear answer as to whether this is normal after implant. I've seen 2 docs. Both told me that i need to relax!! yeh ok - hadn't thought of that. haha.
When did you have your implant out? I hope things get back to normal for you very soon.

I have also read loads of accounts of people getting pregnant very quickly after implant which is what convinced me not to have it taken out too soon (if only I had a time machine!).

Things will settle eventually and one thing the docs did say is that if it doesn't settle there are drugs to help regulate cycles and encourage ovulation.

I hope this hasn't just added to your worries

Don't worry about worrying me, I asked the question and want to know. The NHS website has no info on how long is normal.
It not been out that long, so hopefully it'll settle soon. I think it's just the fact I was like counting down the days, I was regular as clockwork before hand. I thought excellent I'll have a really clear idea of when I ovulate (I had been told it was literally straight after the implant was taken out, not it might be but it WILL be). I was so excited to start ttc then when there was no AF I thought I'll google it... And apparently it's not nessisarly straight away, for various reasons I want to conceive quickly.
I feel like the clinic have an agenda which is to avoid unwanted pregnancy so don't mention possible side effects. (I know this isn't really true it's just how I feel).
I know this is not the end of the world or anything and I realistically have lots of time it's just upsetting to feel left out of the loop.

Oh and thanks for the heads up I'm getting myself on ebay for those cheap tests.
Hopefully we'll both be getting those BFP soon. Smile

It is infuriating waiting for AF, and like you I assumed everything would go back to normal straight away. Like Thora I've kinda relaxed a bit about it all now and trying to go with the flo (excuse the pun) but it does get frustrating. We'll get there in the end tho

AFishWithoutABicycle · 10/09/2013 18:44

Thanks. I'm trying to adopt both of your serene attitudes.
I'm going to appreciate not feeling sick all the time and being able to see my own nether regions and all the other joys if not being pregnant for now.
im off for a Wine and [slab of blue cheese]

I do think you might be right about The Agenda. After the birth of my DD they were asking me about contraception choices before the gas n air had worn off (might be exaggerating just a little)!

Think I'll go have one of those Wine too

Smile

Wine. Sounds good to me too.
