Hi all, I'm new to the site but it seems everyone's clued up with trying for a baby.

I've been on the pill for just under 10 years without a break and I'm getting married July 2014.As we've been together for 10 years, were hoping for a honeymoon baby.

Question is, when do I stop the pill? Part of me thinks to come off in the new year to allow time for my body to adjust, but don't wanna risk falling pregnant before the wedding!!

Other part thinks leaving it until nearer the time( I'm due to stop my pill pack on 8th July and get married on 19th), but then risk being on period on honeymoon.

Final option is taking another pack and losing option of honeymoon baby.

Any help and suggestions are greatly appreciated! X

I would stop as soon as possible because it may take your body time to adjust. However, that's if you are up for using condoms for a while.

That sounds like the best idea, although I heard your at your most fertile immediately after you come off the pill.
Is there any truth in this?

No, it's a myth that you're most fertile after coming off the pill. You could even be less fertile because there is a chance the lining of your uterus is too thin to sustain a pregnancy after being on the pill for 10 years. That is why they recommend waiting a cycle for the lining to build up. Also, usually your body will need time to start producing hormones again, especially after being on it for a long time. It could take up to 6 months to get your period and up to a year to start getting regular cycles. I would stop at least three months in advance and use other birth control in the meantime, such as condoms and fertility awareness method.

I thought I would have no problem coming off the pill, but it took over three months to have my first ovulation, and after this I got my period a week later, so my cycles were still messed up.

Don't be disappointed if you don't have a honeymoon baby. It's perfectly normal to take 6 -12 months to conceive.
