I just read an article on ovufriend.com about proper diet when you ttc.
It's here ovufriend.com/article/13-principles-of-good-nutrition-while-trying-to-conceive-what-and-how-to-eat-to-speed-up-conception,18.html
And I must say I haven't paid that much to attention to what I eat so far, have you? How much did you change your diet when you started ttc?

I must say cutting down on sweets will kind of hard! Do I really need to?

I always think that lots of people get pregnant and don't know, or are majorly unhealthy etc, so I don't try to worry too much about the odd thing. I've been ttc for 9 months and if I cut out everything I enjoyed I'd have had a miserable 9 months! I tend to think everything in moderation is fine until I get my bfp. Obviously keeping fairly healthy is important for yourself anyway though. The only thing I have done is try to cut down on fizzy drinks, as this would benefit my own health anyway.

You're quite right Fox82, though I feel that my eating habits are not really healthy. I'm trying to reduce my greatest love - coffee, and it's going ok. Maybe it's not worth to give up everything you love, but I guess some changes wouldn't do much harm. I heard that ttc women can benefit a lot from introducing some lifestyle changes, and I'm wondering where to start. Any thoughts?

I would just try to be more healthy in general, which is always good, not only when ttc. Also I think it helps to develop good habits for when you're pregnant. So that would mean less caffeine (you could switch to decaf) and less alcohol. You could also cut down on sugar and eat more wholemeal stuff, vegetables and fruit and switch ready meals for home cooked food. But it's important you're not forcing yourself in anything too strict, as it's important you're feeling good and happy as well. So in my case I still enjoy sweet things, as I don't want to lose weight either, but just less than before by eating healthier snacks.

Furthermore, take prenatal vitamins, they have everything in them you'll need. And exercise, although don't start running marathons or anything.

So coffee and alcohol, it'd be hard, especially the coffe thing! But it's worth giving up, isn't it?

you could switch to decaf? then you don't have to give it up.

blueamber · 19/08/2013 15:08

and you don't have to give anything up, just drink less of it

Decaf coffee is not a coffee! So I'd go with drinking less advice! Thanks blueamber!
