Tested positive for Chlamydia Antibodies - Now need to have a Laparoscopy - advice please?

So what can I expect? Sad Sad Sad

I'm devestated. I've had DD and both DH and I have been tested and don't have Chlamydia so it would have been from a long time ago and I wouldn't even have known. Apparently the antibodies that are created when you get the infection can kill the infection off, hence why I wouldn't have known.

So my questions are these:

If I have the laparoscopy and they find that a tube is blocked, will they remove it? (I'm guessing that they will to remove risk of ectopic PGs).

If the laparoscopy doesn't show that the tube is blocked, but that there is just some minor scar tissue, what are the risks of them trying to remove it and also what are the risks of the laparoscopy itself?

Can we continue TTC straight away (within weeks - obviously not days...) after the surgery or do we have to wait a number of months (I hope not... - time is not on my side) Sad

If they remove a tube and the other one is completely clear (they are assuming that one is definitely clear because we have had DD and another pregnancy two months prior to DD that was definitely in the uterus but unfortunately ended in natural MC at 5 weeks), do we still have a good chance to conceive? They told us that apparently you can still OV every month even with only one tube as the tube can move between the two functioning ovaries.

If anyone has any experience of any of this, can they please PM me or just offer some advice on this thread. Scared and upset. Sad

Sorry to hear that. I can't help from personal experience but I can say that my mum had to have one tube and one ovary removed when she was younger and she went on to have two children, although it took 18 months to conceive. I hope that helps.

Thank you VJONES1985. I'm hoping that the ovaries are fine, they've scanned them recently and they look Ok so fingers crossed. Especially if the remaining tube can move from ovary to ovary. But at 39 the time thing worries me... Sad

There will be some people on here with some good advice for you but might not be until later today. So, does this mean you had chlamydia without knowing?

Katnisscupcake · 15/08/2013 12:00

Yep pretty much and the fertility clinic said that it's a lot more common than we realise. She said that there are high numbers of people with the antibodies who had no knowledge that they have every had it, which is why it's made so public now that people must test for it regularly. Sad

You need to speak to your dr about what they will do if they find a blockage and agree a plan. Would you agree to removal of a tube if that is what they advise?

In terms of ttc after the lap, allow about a week to recover, maybe more if they do remove a tube. You will feel very bruised for a few days and I was whacked out from the GA. But you should be up to gentle ttc after a week or so.

Hiya, sorry to hear you're going through this Hmm

I'm due to have a laparoscopy (& something else i cant remember the name of!) in Sept, when I spoke to my consultant she said they wouldn't take anything out at this stage but mine is obviously unique to me so maybe check with your consultant and see what they say?

I've had 3 ectopics, 3 previous laparoscopies and one tube removed. They only took anything away during the first ectopic and had warned me that it may happen.
On a happier note I conceived DS3 on first try with one tube 4 years later so it was def do-able for me Smile

Hope everything goes to plan, please ask away if I can help with anything else, take care.

You've all made me cry with your kindness. I'm just so scared. I'm 39, it's taken me nearly 2 years to persuade DH to have DC2 and now all this has happened. It looks like I will have a chance though, so thank you for all your positive responses.

I just can't stop crying...

Do you think you had chlamydia before you had dc1? If so, that should fill you with hope :) If not, remember that many women have been through this and gone on to have children no worries. Stay positive.

TheresOnlyOneWayOfLife · 15/08/2013 12:31

And if it helps I was 36 when I had my last one...

Sending positive vibes to you, at least they know what's there and are dealing with it. Ask lots of questions about the 'what if's' and then can go ahead with as much info as poss.

Good luck x

Yes, definitely had Chlaymida before DD1 as neither of us have been with anyone else in 12 years and she's only been around for 4 years. Plus apparently men get the symptoms and DH has never had any.

I did have quite a few partners when I was younger and the infection had never really been heard of... we only worried about infections that had obvious symptoms and HIV. I was very careless and worried when I had the standard HIV test when PG with DD, I was so relieved that one came back clear, I didn't realise this was hiding in there somewhere aswell Sad.
