Waiting Game

Natty1806 · 13/06/2006 19:06

Hi

Was just wondering if anyone was in a similar situation to me and wanted to chat.

I am currently waiting for my appoinment at the fertility clinic (waiting list 8 weeks, have already waited 4) have had tests done at GP's and other half is fine. My progestrone levels were 1!!!

So at the moment i am not really ttc as it is very unlikely to happen, but hopefully when and if they put me on clomid i am going to go hell for leather (is that the saying) Grin

I have also just started acupunture to see if this helps.

Sorry am rambling on but would love someone else to talk to who is ttc but not really IYSWIM Smile

hi, like you waiting for appointment at fert unit for IUI & possibly clomid too. but trying it the natural way too, but not really holding out much hope as needed iui to conceive DD.

Tried 6 years the natural way, had all the tests but nowt wrong, still don't know why we didn't get pregnant. Going to try acupunture (thanks for the reminder Grin and reflexology so see if that will help.

Hope you appt comes soon and good luck

coggy · 13/06/2006 20:36

Madrose..that's good to hear that you can have IUI again. I was worried that once you'd had it to conceive one they may not put you back on the waiting list.
How long have you had to wait the second time before they allowed you to have your fertility appointment?

Natty..no help to you I'm afraid Blush. Just saw Madrose's post and it's something I've been thinking/ worrying about for a while. If I can only conceive with treatment, will I be allowed more than one.
Sorry to crash your thread with no helpful comment for you.

Natty1806 · 14/06/2006 09:00

Not too worry coggy, x

6 years - oh the stress levels !

OP posts:
coggy · 14/06/2006 14:05

I tried for nearly five years for my ds!!!
Don't know why I'm getting so frustrated this time after only 12 months!!!!! Wink LOL!!

madrose · 14/06/2006 17:31

ah prob is - they don't put you on waiting list! well not me anyway - cos of age (30's top end) and cos of dd - we're going to have to pay Sad so no holidays this year, but really want to guve it a go as would love DD to have a sib.

hoping it will work first time Grin or who knows could work naturally.

why does it have to be so hard? know what you mean bout frustration - only been rying 6 months

coggy · 14/06/2006 18:37

So will they not give you IUI because you have your dd Madrose?

I think I can only conceive on clomid/treatment because of short luteal phases but I suppose some people's cycles may change over the years?
(I hope)

madrose · 14/06/2006 20:19

that's what my consultant said. Went to see her, she told me I was a prime candidate, and after looking at my notes would refer me. Didn't say anything at the time (and DD was sitting on my lap) about DD. Then I received a letter from her telling me that I would have to pay due to age and because I had one child using IUI.

I'm so grateful for the IUI, we waited 6 years for DD, and it was successful twice (M/C the first time).

And I know resources are tight so I do understand that if i want to give it another go I need to pay. Didn't try clomid the first time, was about to when I conceived with IUI.

Have no idea why we didn't conceive naturally, gave it a good go Wink.

Going to sound really thick here - what is a short luteal phase? is it a short cycle?

And I right in thinking that your DS was aided by clomid? What was your experience of clomid?

coggy · 14/06/2006 20:48

Well.............
..........We were ttc for about 4 years and were put on a waiting list for IUI (about 12 months they said) while I was on the waiting list I was given clomid to see if it would 'do any good'. We had no reason for our sub-fertilty according to tests etc.

I went on 3 months of clomid and had hcg injections to release the eggs and had a scan each month to see if it was the right time to have the jab.
A couple of times they said the follicles were rather small but because I had travelled a long way (70 miles) they would give me the jab anyway! Shock....a bit random I felt!!

The next month I knew that I couldn't make the mid-cycle appointment so didn't take any clomid and....low and behold...fell pg with ds.

Tragically my ds was a real fidget and got a knot in his cord. Nobody knew anything about it until his due date when he 'dropped down' to be born (brilliantly well-behaved and on time!!) and the knot tightened and so he died. I went into labour without knowing any of this and called out the midwife in the morning to see if I was far enough on to go to hospital and she couldn't find a heartbeat Sad.
Went in and had him many, many hours later!!! Induced but still he took a loooong time to come out!!

Sorry....a but long winded and slightly off track...but...

My gp asked if I could be put back on treatment almost instantly and I went back onto the IUI waiting list (now 18 months long!!!) My consultant said he would personally phone me (that was in August and he hasn't yet!!) but my gp got on the case and I am now on my second month again on clomid.

I've experienced no side effects from clomid at all that I know of apart from what it should do..
A short luteal phase is basically when you don't have enough time between ov and AF for a fertilised egg to implant. I have only 9 days between my LH surge and AF. Found this out by accident, looking on MN for some support/ advice of what happened to my son. Used opk to test the theory and have discovered that the clomid that I was 'just put on' while I waited actually lenghtened my luteal phase......brilliant!!

I have had my LH surge this month on CD15 (usually CD18 or 19) and am on CD24 so it has lengthened again this month.....hurrah for clomid!! Grin

Bet you wish you didn't ask now aren't you!!!! Blush

coggy · 14/06/2006 20:49

Flippin' heck....I have NEVER written a post even close to that long before!!!

Blush Blush Blush

madrose · 14/06/2006 21:17

oh Coggy - what an awful thing to happen, your poor poor baby and you, what an awful thing to experience. and no your post wasn't too long, just thought provoking and heart breaking. Sorry I'm lost for words and anything I can think to say sounds silly. How are you now.

We waited two years to get to the top of the waiting list, and then the important part of my cycle kept falling on the weekend, which was a bugger.

But it did work - keep that in mind. You sound like a fab person - and it will happen.

So have you started your acupunture? Also I've heard if you start clomid - take cough medicine (one for chesty cough) something to do the mucus!

right DH home - better stop ignoring him.

Good luck

Natty1806 · 15/06/2006 07:08

Hi Ladies

Not sure what to say coggy, am very sorry for your loss Sad must have been terrible.

i knew the waiting lists would be long, but this is all a joke, what happens if IUI does not work do you have to wait another 12/18 months? No wonder you hear people saying we were on the list and due to go in and the day before i found out i was pregnant, not really a suprise when there could possibly be a chance and you have been waiting nearly 2 years.

ffs i am going on now. Blush

bye

coggy · 16/06/2006 19:05

Thanks Natty.
I'm also worried that I will have my quota of clomid before getting a bfp and then.....what?

Is that it?

There's too much else to worry about without adding any more but it does make me think sometimes.......

coggy · 16/06/2006 19:09

Sorry Madrose...pressed the message button a bit quicker than I meant to and hadn't finished!!

I'm fine thanks. We actually dealt with it all very well and got back ttc fairly quickly. Can't quite believe it's been over a year.

I had accupunture after I had my ds to 'rebalance' myself and found it good. Nothing happened for me on the ttc front and it was getting a bit pricey so I don't have it now. I understand that it works REALLY well for lots of people tho.

How often are you having your sessions Natty?

madrose · 16/06/2006 21:46

hya, I know we had and have the same concerns re clomid - we were told 12 months max. When I asked your question - ivf was suggested - you should be able to get a free cycle and then we were told if we 'shared' eggs then we could receive free treatment.

But I'm certain it will work for you - positive thoughts work wonders.

Natty - you just echo my thoughts

coggy · 16/06/2006 21:50

Okay...thick question coming up...
What do you mean if you shared eggs?

madrose · 17/06/2006 22:21

thank you D & b,

'sharing' eggs - basicually you are given drugs to stimulate egg production, when collected you keep some for your IVF - somebody else gets the others.

Sounds bizarre - but it has become common practice at some fertility units. The recipent of your eggs - funds your IVF.

It was just something that the matron brought up as I was lying with legs in air - displaying all Blush.

Again thank you for dust Grin

Have a chat

coggy · 17/06/2006 22:23

LOL at your legs in the air comment.

This ttc lark is NOT at all romantic is it??!!
Not what I imagined as a young girl at all!!!

Natty1806 · 18/06/2006 18:26

Hi Coggy

Acupunture sessions are currently once a week. Feel positive about them though as my periods were 46-70 days apart and then after two session AF came on day 35, is it the acupunture, the pill coming out of my system or the healthier diet. Who knows just hope July is luck for us.

TBH it would be typicall to fall in July cause if everything went to plan due date would be March and as i work in payroll (and accounts) it would be a nightmare as i would be missing the year end, so would have to do lots of training and don't think boss would be very pleased, but as my mum works above me am sure she wouldn't really mind.

Anyway seem to be rambling, off now. x

OP posts:
coggy · 18/06/2006 21:07

I know that acupunture has worked for loads of people and that's excellent that your cycles are getting better.

Before I was pg my cycles varied b't'n 26 and 32 days but after pg and accupunture I was 28, 28, 27, 26...couldn't believe it!! Grin
Had a dodgy 25 day cycle this month but then I haven't been pronged for a while!!!

madrose · 18/06/2006 21:26

have you tried AGnus castus (sp?) my cycles are short anything from 16 days to 23 (25 if lucky)

When I take agnus castus - it brings cycle to 28 days.

Good news re acupunture and cycle - going to ring up this week to make appointment (get paid next week).

had acupunture for bad back once - worked wonders.

friend of mind recommended pineapple juice each morning (WTF) but still giving it a go Grin
Fingers crossed for a positve june/july.

coggy · 18/06/2006 21:28

Got to go...B.Brother...but I will be back!!!

coggy · 18/06/2006 22:42

I tried agnus castus one month despite everyones warnings about it but it was the only month in ages that I didn't ovulate (although looking back at my stats I may have done on CD23!!!) Either way, I decided thatr it wasn;t doind me any favours and as I'd not gone to a qualified herbalist I shouldn't muck around with it.
Now I'm on clomid anyway so I wouldn't take two things at once.

If clomid hasn't worked in a month (not allowed any more!) then I think I may go to a herbilist and see what they recommend.
HTH!!!
I seem to waffle a lot to you - sorry! Blush

Natty1806 · 19/06/2006 09:18

Yeah i looked into Angus catus (sp?) but like coggy had a few warnings from other people and decided to give it a miss.

I also want to try one thing at a time so i know what helps bests.
