Could my husbands haemochromatosis be causing embryo failure?

Hi,
TTC for past three months. AF has arrived three days late last month and five days late this month. I've bedn 28 days preciseky forever. Only time I've been late previously is when I fell pregnant with DD. Really felt pregnant this time, went off coffee immediately and had sore boobs same as with first preganancy. We were very lucky and conceived DD first try, I was only 33 which probably helped, I'm now 37. Since DD arrival my husband was diagnosed with hereditary haemochromatosis for which he is undergoing biweekly phlebotomy for several months as quite severe for his age,39. The treatment is working as ferritin levels are coming down but still very high, more than triple 'normal' levels.
I did ask DH to check with the professor who has been treating him if it was safe TTC and was told no problem even though they had only tested for iron deposits in his liver, nowhere else in his body. I've been reading up and it is possible for sperm and sperm production to be effected and now I'm very worried about the potential of conceiving with sperm that may have heavy metal poisoning or whether we can conceive at all. I know three months of trying is a short time but I'm really feeling like its now or never for another child. I'm worried my husband won't want to undergo tests and I will run out of time (my mum had menopause in her early 40's). I've booked in for a homone test incase the problem is as simple as that. My husband has already said if we don't conceive naturally he doesn't want to go down the IVF route.
Anybody been through this? Any haemochromatosis experts out there to offer advice?

Hi adventurers mum, just found your post as I was searching "ttc haemochromotosis". My DH also has hereditary form and goes bi-monthly for venesection. We had a miscarriage last year which they thought was a blighted ovum. I'm beginning to think it may be something to do with his condition even though he manages it well. We don't gave any children and got together 3 years ago. I'm 40 and he's 43 so this is our last chance too. Hope you got pregnant in the end.
