Trying to drag myself up to do the housework but its not happening!

Was wandering if Im the only one on here who has an average cycle of 145 days. Currently on CD 221.

Had last AF in Oct last year and was due in March this year but nothing. I use www.mymonthlycycles.com to track them, I find it really easy to use and its good as it gives you the average aswell as telling you what CD your on.

I do have PCOS but I dont know anyone else or havent seen anyone else post to say they have cycles this long.

My cycles were about this length also, infact some were even longer. I too have PCOS - a common cause of such period irregularity. Without exception as well such lengthy cycles are ones where ovulation does not happen.

What treatment are you having for this condition?. I ask this as this does not go away (there is no cure for PCOS as the cystic follicles associated with this condition do return over time) and many women find it difficult to conceive without some form of medical assitance (be it drugs like clomid, injectibles or ovarian diathermy surgery to name but three).

www.verity-pcos.org.uk is the website designed to help women with PCOS.

Hi,

I had a hysteroscopy but as the lining of my womb was too thick they couldnt see anything.

I was given Provera to take for a week to bring on a bleed and have another one and CD2 bloods. I decided not to take the Provera as Im getting married in 5 weeks so have alot to do and I worried I could kick start my cycles into being usual length and regular and I dont want that for my wedding day or honeymoon. Will get the pills when I get home and then carry on once the wedding is over and done with.

Have been trying for 2 1/2 years now. I have no idea about if and when I ovulate but I guess from what your saying with my cycles being so long its likely Im not ovulating.

I really hope I can have children as it will mean the world to me.

By all means take the provera when you get back from honeymoon but also seek medical assistance re your PCOS with regards to ttc. Some women with PCOS do ovulate on a very occasional basis but as your cycles are that long I would say you do not ovulate. Your lining also is too thick.

You can conceive with PCOS - it is not an absolute barrier to conception but you do need proper medical assistance from a gynae and you should be seen by such a person on a regular basis.

An internal ultrasound would give an accurate picture of what your ovaries look like (and they could measure your lining as well using this method). Polycystic ovaries tend to be larger than normal (walnut) size and have multiple cystic follicles. Some of these are dormant, yet others contain hormones and perhaps one may contain an egg.

My best wishes to you on your forthcoming wedding:).

ATM,

I guess I will have the tests and see what they find and then maybe take clomid or some other ovulation inducing drug after Ive had my tubes checked and DF had been checked.

I did have an internal ultrasound, thats what diagnosed the PCOS but they never mentioned anything about the lining of the womb then.

Im hoping all will be ok and my eggs just need a kick start in the form of clomid.

Fingers crossed x

What position are you in?

Went on to have a child following ovarian diathermy surgery for PCOS.

Clomid may help but it should be given with a degree of caution to many women with PCOS. Clomid can encourage more LH (luteinising hormone) to be produced; as many women with PCOS have an excess of this hormone this is often the last thing needed. It therefore does not always work for all women with PCOS. Some women with PCOS do become clomid resistant over time as well and you should be closely monitored whilst on it with both blood tests and ultrasounds to see that an egg has left the ovary. It should also only be tried for six months after which other treatments should be looked at and tried.

PCOS is not an absolute barrier to conception and if clomid did not work there are other treatment options open to you.

When you do get to see the gynae again I would discuss with them at some length treatment options available to you.

ATM,

I will do thanks. I never realised clomid could only be taken for 6 months but I know you need close supervision while taking it.

Will just wait till life has settles down after the wedding and get all the investigations I need.

Thanks
