Hi Ladies, in need of a little insight from other women who have conceived/trying to concieve.

I normally have a very regular 28 day cycle and ovulate on day 14. This cycle though I ovulated very early around day 9/10. I had very small amount of spotting when I wiped around a week ago which has now past and the last day or so I have had a lot of egg white mucus.

My question is as this is not normal for me has anyone had any similar experiences or symptoms and also I have read that once you ovulate even if early you will have your period 14 days later ( which normally I do) if this is true I should be due but I had a negative pregnancy test yesterday.

Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated x

Any chance that you didnt ovulate when you thought you did?

Otherwise it is normal for your luteal phase to occasionally vary by a day or 2.

Finally, you could still be pregnant and it just isn't showing up on the test yet.

babyrose · 04/07/2013 18:30

Where are you in your cycle now? Op posted is right luteal phase is usually a day or two round about the same time.

mjsmith · 04/07/2013 18:38

Thanks ladies. I did continue testing everyday up until now as I though it might of been a mistake but I never got another positive result. I am on cycle day 23 at the moment. So am a bit confused as to when to expect my period.

Still early then. Give it a couple more days then test again.

babyrose · 04/07/2013 20:59

Try and hold off I know it's hard. Do u have any symptoms?

mjsmith · 04/07/2013 22:11

To be honest it's driving me mad waiting. I feel awful as I should be patient, but I guess I naively thought it would be easy to concieve but after 7 months of trying to concieve I guess I'm starting to get a bit down about it. I feel like I have some symptoms that I havnt experienced other months, ie very full almost swollen breasts, and on and off cramping in my abdomen. Also as I said previous I had some small drops of blood a few days to a week a go... But I'm not to sure if these are of any significance at all!

Thank you ladies these posts are helping my sanity more than you know!

Anybody else experienced any similar stmptoms before they got a positive result?

It is not correct to assume that your period will occur 14 days after you ovulate. That is a myth. Ovulation is not an exact science and it can occur earlier, later or not at all in any given cycle. Even normally fertile women have the occasional anovulatory cycle.

mjsmith · 05/07/2013 09:44

It quite confusing to really know what's going on as I do know its always different but my gp did tell me and I have read a lot that the norm is for you period to come 14 days approximately after ovulation x. I'm just really struggling with it all and was just after some support and maybe some shared experiences. This is our first time trying to concieve snd it's all becoming a bit overwhelming .

How old are you now?. I ask this as the general consensus seems to be that if you are over 35 and have been ttc for more than 6 months without success, then medical advice should be sought.

It sounds like your body was gearing up to ovulate but has not done so this month.

Any bleeding between periods too should always be mentioned to the doctor.

What GP told you re ovulation was incorrect, many are often not up to speed at all when it comes to such issues.

Thanks x

Did you have sex around that part of your cycle? The sore boobs and cramping do sound positive if you don't normally get that, so might just be too early for the test to show yet. Fingers crossed for you, that 2ww is awful (just about to go into it myself ttc no2!)

mjsmith · 05/07/2013 21:23

fingers crossed for you also, the 2 week wait really is just awful! my husband and i had sex in the days leading up to, over and after (we are very keen!) the ovulation test gave me a positive result. just the small amount of bleeding over a week ago and the fact that it would mean i will have a very long time between ovulation and period is so confusing to me!

how has your journey been so far?

Hi Op.. totally personal advice here but I also was never sure when ovulation was happening for me so we took a fortnight-three weeks and made sure to DTD at least once a day to make sure we got the right day. Anyway, after a year of trying it worked. Also a bit of prayer/positive thinking. Best of luck and try not to worry.

Aetae · 05/07/2013 21:30

I don't know what 'normal' is, but my period doesn't reliably arrive 14 days after I ovulate. It reliably arrives 28 days after my last period, but ovulation moves around in between for me. So I wouldn't test until your period is due based on your last period if I were you. Supplementing vitamin B6 also helped even out my cycle.

mjsmith · 05/07/2013 21:34

great advice x we are trying for 3 to 4 times a week as we thought that it should cover most days .....but sure a little more wouldnt hurt either of us!

OP posts:
mjsmith · 05/07/2013 21:39

thank you aetae. i also am quite regular with having a 28 day cycle so maybe im in the same boat as you and ovulation moves around. i did actually start taking b6 this cycle as i had read that helps. are you having much success?

OP posts:
mrspaddy · 05/07/2013 21:40

We were doing three days a week for a year as GP said then thought to hell with that.. then the first month we did the everyday thing Hmm it worked.. it won't do any harm. God thank goodness this is not a RL chat.. I'd die from embarrassment.. but a lot of people take a lot longer than you think when you get to know them!

mjsmith · 05/07/2013 21:44

well new cycle begins next wednesday (i think) and so time for a new approach i think! thank you!

Yes, it worked :) 17 weeks yesterday. Mainly lots of shagging and the aforementioned b6. And no precise ovulation-then-shag timing, we just aimed for a two week window in the middle, give or take.
