Jogging/Running and ovulation?

Hello,

I hope you are all doing fine.

I was wondering, has anyone been advised by their doctor not to jog or run because it might affect ovulation or the ovaries in a negative way?

I have only found mixed information about it. I am going to ask the fertility doctor next week but in the meantime I would like to know if anyone has been advised not to do it or to reduce it.

thanks,
Alex

Well my understanding is that it is fine to do any exercise, even once you are pregnant. So long as you aren't exerting yourself, and I know advice once you are pregnant us to not start anything new but maintain what you did before.

I haven't heard anything specific to ovulation but I can't really see how to would affect it.

Unless you are dramatically under weight, exercise shouldn't be detrimental to ovulation at all. Keeping fit and healthy when TTC is really important!

I agree with everyone else. It's good to exercise when ttc. it's only problematic if you overdo it massively, lose loads of weight and your periods disappear.

thank you all, yes I agree.

It really helps with stress. I was thinking about the impact of jogging though. It can be tough on joints and sometimes I have lower back pain afterwards. I would hate to have to give it up. Anyway I will let you know what the doctor tells me on Tuesday. Thanks.

Hi, I read a post on another site from someone asking about exercise in pregnancy, specifically running as was a bout a women running a marathon and a reply as given from a fertility naturopath who said it is fine, it may be worth a read or posting a question to her if you have specific concerns, the link to the post is forum.prideangel.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=447 Hope this helps! Good luck xx

Re pregnancy, I've read that as long as you were a regular runner before, you're fine to continue - as long as you stop if you experience as 'warning signs' such as abdo pain, bleeding, or dizziness. Beyond that, you just need to do what's comfortable for you and ensure that you don't get too out of breath or increase your heart rate too much. That's for pregnancy and obviously some of that is to protect the baby. I'd assume that the bit about regular runners being fine to continue would apply to conception too. I've conceived twice whilst being a regular runner.

Thanks RaraZ. great to know you conceived while you were still running. Smile
