When to start DTD?

I had my Mirena removed last month in preparation to TTC baby number one. I have impatiently been waiting for my first post-removal period in order to start thinking about cycles and dates etc and I was glad when 3 days ago it appeared.

Whilst I had my Mirena I still had periods but they were extremely, extremely light - more like spotting really. I predicted that when my 'normal' periods resumed it would be awful as prior to my Mirena I had the most HORRENDOUS periods and when it did make an appearance I wasn't disappointed. It was extremely, extremely heavy and my stomach cramps were agony. Prior to my Mirena they used to last 5 days minimum (with no let-up in flow) and would last up to 7 days.

However, I'm now on day 3 of my period and it has disappeared. It seems to have come to a sudden halt. Day 1 and 2 and this morning it was heavy and now it seems to have just stopped.

I'm not going to stress over that, maybe it is just because it is my first post-Mirena period, but my question is, when do I start to DTD??

How long after a period stops does ovulation occur?
Will it make a difference because my period was only 3 days?

When ovulation occurs is entirely down to the individual woman, there s no hard and fast rule. You will need to get to know you natural cycle to be able to pinpoint ovulation.

If you are lucky and have regular cycles then identifying ovulation shouldn't be too hard. The second half of your cycle (after ovulation occurs) is usually between 10 and 15 days in length, so once you know your average cycle length you can subtract 10-15 days to find your most fertile time.

It is best to aim to have sex 2 to 3 times a week from the last day of your period, that way you ensure a constant supply of sperm to meet the egg. Just bear in mind that whilst sperm can live for up to 5 days (2-3 days is more likely), the egg will only survive for a maximum of 24 hours, so you need to ensure sex before ovulation happens to give yourself the best chance of fertilisation.

Good luck

Thank you Frankly,

I have no idea what my cycles are like anymore. I don't know whether to base things on how my cycles were before the Mirena or whether to base things on how they were whilst I had the Mirena.

I guess there is no point debating it with myself.

Maybe I should just DTD every other day starting from tomorrow, lol.
I think me and Hubby are going to be tired and sore, lol Smile
