Has anyone had the AMH test done?

Hello,

I hope you are all doing great.

I am 34 years old, 35 in October. I have just got my AMH blood test results and turns out my AMH levels are 0.6.pmol/l which apparently is very low. I have yet to see my Doctor on Tuesday but I was also told by the lady who did my sonogram that my antral follicle count was low so I am feeling pretty devastated right now...

Any advice or hope stories would truly help right now and will be very much appreciated.

all the best,

Alex

Hi,

That level is extremely low for your age. However in terms of hope, it is not the number that matters but the quality of the eggs that makes a difference. There have been women who have even lower levels than you that have successfully gotten pregnant and had a healthy baby result. Likewise there are women who have excellent AMH results but the eggs though high enough in number, are of poor quality and mean that a baby is not a likely outcome.

The AMH number is only about number of eggs not quality of eggs. The number is used in IVF treatment to judge type of treatment that might be used.

Many doctors would these days start talking about considering donated eggs. This is an option that might be put to you.

Remember the number is about the number of eggs not the quality, and does not mean that you cannot have a baby, but that it might not be as easy for you as some others, and that action should be taken sooner rather than later, as it is not that the number will improve.

I hope that the doctors are proactive for you on Tuesday.

Hi Alex
Sorry for your poor results. I had similar at age 37 and it took three years, 2 mc, 3 drs say less than 1% chance with ivf so telling me to do donor eggs (which I didn't) a lot of supplements and I now have a gorgeous 10 mo ds.
Don't give up hope but educate yourself. Do you know what your afc is- I had scores of 4-5 mainly. I was going to try ivf but started dhea (google it) and got my first bfp 2 mo later - even though that ended in mc at 11 weeks I became convinced I could conceive naturally and all I needed was one good egg.

All I'd say is work out what options you will try, age is on your side but to help egg quality cut out as much bad stuff (booze, caffeine, sugar as you can without ruining life) take a good womens multi vit etc.
It could be a bumpy ride I set myself an age limit of when I would look at adoption or donor eggs.
Good luck
X
