Does Clomid mess up your cycles?

I'm on my first month of 50mg Clomid. Usual cycle length is 27 days. Today is day 28. I usually get some spotting and so far nothing. I know AF could appear at any time, but just wondered if anyone has any experience of this?

I daren't get my hopes up. We have been TTC for over 4 years and this is only the second time my cycle has gone to 28 days.

No other symptoms to obsess about other than being so bloated I could burst.

Hi tryingforsolong,

Well when I was on clomid for three cycles it regulated my cycle and brought down the length to 29 days. Previously my cycle would have been anything from 33 to 120 ish, and anything in between. I think you are in a good position to test. Best of luck!

Have you been tracked while taking Cl

Argh! Sorry!

As I was trying to say, have you been monitored while on Clomid? Do you know when/if you ovulated? It's impossible to tell if you are "late" unless you know when you ovulated.

Hi, thanks for your replies. As you can imagine, I'm driving myself crazy.

I'm not being monitored and although I tried to chart symptoms this month, it doesn't really show anything, as I had twinges and bloating most days! I've used CBFM before for 6 months and it showed regular peaks on CD16-17 every cycle. I've always been very regular but never over 28 days.

Who prescribed the clomid and on what basis to start with?.

No monitoring is unacceptable as you then have no idea whether its working or not. Clomid's main job is to make the ovaries work harder.

If you have been ttc for over 4 years as well what tests on both of you have been done to date?. What is the diagnosis of the underlying problem if any?.

Hi Attila my GP has prescribed the Clomid. I did question her re the monitoring and she said it will be ok. I've also called the surgery again and asked again as I was worried but again she said to stop worrying, lots of women have it without scans? 50mg for one month, then increase to 100mg for a month then 150mg for a month, then go back and see her.

We were referred to private fertility consultant after having HSG (clear), SA (below average morphology), bloods (showing I ovulate). We were turned down for NHS treatment as DH has a child from his previous relationship.

We couldn't afford IVF which they recommended at the clinic so we tried for another 12 months without any success. I'm now 40 which is why I went back to GP.

In my experience (I have PCOS) Clomid regulated my cycle for a couple of months but only to circa 32-38 days from 45+. I have read a lot about it and the reaction seems to vary from person to person. The general consensus seems to be that if you get jiggy every 3 days from CD 8, you should give yourself maximum chance of a BFP!!

Baby dust to you all xx

No monitoring is unacceptable as you then have no idea whether its working or not. Clomid is quite powerful stuff and you should be monitored whilst on it. Its bad practice too of the GP to increase the dosage monthly over three months!. And then what happens after 3 months if/when you go back and see this person?.

If repeated blood tests have shown that you are ovulating regularly clomid has the opposite effect. It should only be given to women where there is definitive proof of ovulatory problems.

BTW semen analysis should always be repeated. One poor analysis is not fully indicative of there being male factor issues but this should only be repeated in any case. GP seems to have ignored any of this.
