Rhumatoid arthritis and ttc?

Hi all

Has anyone got any experience of this?

Have been ttc unsuccessfully since Feb this year after having the Mirena IUD out.

Have had a few episodes of inflammation and joint pain in my back and joints on and off for about six months. Blood tests etc are inconclusive but GP thinks it could be RA.

He won't give me any anti inflammatories as I said I'm ttc so I've just got codeine and been told to rest.

I'm concerned that this is why I'm not pregnant yet Hmm

Any advice or experience welcome.

You are not alone, don't worry, but just at a very specific stage that few people are probably at. I don't think you are into a particularly worrying time-scale for TTC at four months (although I understand that you are starting to wonder why it isn't happening). The mirena is probably more related than the inflammation, but neither indicate it is going to take much longer.

I conceived both times with very active and obvious RA (diagnosis 10 year previously). I was told it only really causes problems if you have very severe hip pain and struggle to have sex, although you might be slightly less likely to conceive on months where you have an infection and your immune system has overreacted to it. I was also able to have local treatment (shots in affected joints), so you don't have to just endure it.

You might be able to take anti-inflammatories in the first two weeks of your cycle, at least then you would know if they helped, you should ask. Also, push for a referral to a consultant, if it is RA, it can flair up really badly post birth and it would be great to be in the system before then.

Good luck.

your def not alone! I don't have RA but a different form called juvenile idiopathic arthritis. basically the kind u get as a child/teen. we have been TTC for about a year but my specialist said I have less chance if I have a flare up Sad also doesnt help that I have pos. but I'm trying to stay positive even tho I had a phantom pregnancy last month! hope you get the bfp you want soon Grin

Thanks ladies, sorry for late reply.

I am trying to get referred to a decent consultant so that I can start understanding what is going on. I have had symptoms for a couple of years but have only just had a proper diagnosis.

Fingers crossed for a BFP although this month my most fertile time has been when I haven been flared up the worst and full of painkillers so not holding out much hope!
