I am unsure what to do. Basically I have pcos, I was on clomid for three cycles but due to two chemical pregnancies on the clomid I was changed to femara as they said it will make me ovulate but won't thin out my lining.

So after two cycles of femara it did NOT make me ovulate at all Sad

HOWEVER I happen to have one more cycle worth of clomid left (pharmacist accidentally gave to me) This is my dilemma, should I take the clomid this month instead of the femara OR just take a break for a month and then take it OR just wait for my next appointment in August???

My thinking is, well at least the clomid actually makes me ovulate. The femara is useless I might as well be taking smarties!

If you are still reading, thank you and any advice would be greatly appreciated! Smile

Oh and I should point out that I am being left to it totally unmonitored. Also (in the public system in Ireland) if anything goes wrong or is not working I have basically no one to turn to as I can't get through to the gynae ward and my gp doesn't want to hear about it or prescribe anything!

Personally I wouldn't take Clomid unsupervised as it is a very powerful drug. I took it for 5 cycles but it didn't work for me (ovulated 3 times but not on the other 2), so I was switched to ovulation induction which is what I'm on now.

As hard as it may sound, I'd wait until your appointment. Also don't bother with your GP, most of them are next to useless on fertility issues! Is going to a private fertility clinic an option for you?

Oh what does ovulation induction entail? Yeah I was thinking of going private, I am actually thinking of making an appointment in the morning for a place I have investigated.

Ovulation induction involves a base line scan and blood test on Day 4ish of your cycle and then daily injections of Follicle Stimulating Hormone until you have produced follicles of a good size. I usually end up injecting for 7-10 days with 2-3 scans during this time to monitor growth. Once you have no more than 3 follicles of a good size you are sent away to take a trigger injection of HCG to cause ovulation. Then it is a game of wait and see!

I'm currently on my third cycle, been TTC for 3 years so it is tough going

Wow that sounds like tough work. Though there is nothing about fertility problems that is easy. I find it difficult to stay going with it at the moment but I'm sure it will be worth it in the end.

Bumping for more advice

I can't really give you any advice, but I'm sort of in a similar situation. I'm on my first month of Clomid, prescribed by my GP and I'm also not being monitored. If this month fails then she wants me to increase to 100mg and next month 150mg. I'm worried that its too much but she said to go away and do this and come back in 3 months if I'm not pregnant!

I've been trying for 4 years... not eligible for any other NHS treatment so this is it for us!

Good luck and I'm sorry about your chemical pregnancies, stay positive xx
