The Order of Cervical Mucus...

... which sounds like a group of nuns I think...

I am trying (hard) to conceive Number 2, and at the risk of sounding like a numpty, could someone clarify in what order the mucus falls, so to speak?

I am 41 so I don't have that much EWCM, and traditionally have always ovulated late (17/18/19) on a 29/30 day cycle. I know this from the fertility monitor more than anything.

But when the monitor tells me its egg day doesn't really correspond with what is going on downstairs. Does it go:
period - dry - milky - clear - egg white - milky - dry, which is what I always thought or...
period - clear - egg white - milky - dry.

In other words - is the fertile mucus first in the cycle? Because I don't get the fertile mucus on the day the monitor says I ovulated. Nowhere near in fact. So I don't know which way is up anymore!

I'm a lot younger than you (24), but my CM doesn't seem to change all that much. I haven't been checking for long though. One thing I will say is that when I'm pregnant (before I know that I am, but after I must have conceived - if that makes sense!), my cervix drops very low. I found this strange and quite worrying the first time it happened - whenever I checked my cervix, it was only as high as the middle joint of my middle finger. I've read on various sites that the opposite should e happening when you've conceived, but I guess it goes to show that everyone is different!

I always have the ewcm in the days leading up to ovulation. The day I actually ovulate, my cm is already changing to a drier, milkier consistency.

It's also worth bearing in mind that those monitors don't detect ovulation, they detect a hormonal surge which may lead to ovulation.
