Ttc with a very erratic cycle - advice please!

Sorry, slightly clueless person here! I'm 32 and my partner and I are intending to start ttc within the next few months. However, since I turned 30 my periods have been all over the place, after previously being very regular. My period arrived today after only 22 days, and since I've kept a record of it (over the past year or so) it has ranged from 21 to 29 days, with no two consecutive months being the same. Other than being on the short side, my cycle now seems to have no pattern, and I'm concerned that it will be very difficult to judge when I'm at my most fertile.

Have already been checked out by my GP because of my irregular periods and they found no major fertility issues - negative for endometriosis, am definitely ovulating etc. Do have one ovary that is multi-cystic (other appears normal) and they also found a couple of fibroids, but they didn't seem to think this should cause particular problems (they did say not to wait to long before ttc though - hence the current plan). Not on the Pill or anything, and lifestyle factors are good - don't smoke or drink, healthy weight, exercise regularly etc.

Having read some of the posts on here, I realise that my cycle is by no means as irregular as some, but the lack of predictability is driving me slightly nuts. Is there anything I could/should be doing to get a better idea of when I ovulate/how long my luteal phase is etc? Really in the dark here, so any advice would be gratefully received!

You are most likely perfectly fertile - you won't know until you try! The best thing you can do, rather than trying to pinpoint your fertile time, is to dtd about 3 times a week, so there is always sperm there ready waiting for an egg.

I had mild PCOS and was told my ovaries were multicycstic. They are not any more. I did try to eat a low GI diet. I'm not sure if that helped, but something seems to have sorted it, so you might try that (I wasn't that strict but just tried to avoid things that would make my blood sugar spike then crash).

Hi, it is horrible when things are not what you expect, I wouldn't worry too much though! My periods have always been a bit out and I manged to get pregnant once I pinpointed my fertile time although I was also told that the more you worry about it the more stressed you can become which can cause problems in return. I did read a good post on another site from a natural fertility expert who explained how to recoginse your body's signs for fertility, I will put link to blog at the end, may be worth a read? Hope this helps! I wish you all the luck in the world! forum.prideangel.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=537

I'd just try to have sex because you want to and because it's fun - which hopefully means you'll do it pretty often anyway - rather than turn it into a chore to do at a specific time. Good luck! x

I conceived several times tracking my waking temperature as I have extremely erratic periods, and an odd luteal phase.

I used this free website - fab Grin

Good luck!
