HI all...its been awile since i've been on but i basically had given up on ttc. Now....my question! I had just ovulated a couple of days ago...i think and i've been kind of nashious lately so i decided to take a test last night. Well i had a very faint positive reading. I took another one today and it said neg ( mind you there wasn't much pee to come out). Could the first one just have been a mistake , and can you even read a pos this quickly.

thank you bunny2, I will definitely insist on an early scan, I can't remember when it was done with dd1, but I think 7 weeks, that means next week, according to my calculations....
very nerve wrecking...this pregancy is a surprise, but I've been wanting a second baby for such a long time now, I was so happy...

why did I do the b*y test again??

Sorry
I really appreciate your support bunny2, I'll try and write again after GP's app. but my connection is very dodgy, so I might not be able to connect for days....

I still haven't put dd to bed, I was so keen to get reassurance from musmnet!!

Webmum - unfortunately the exact same thing happened to me last year. Had a strong positive, tested about 5 days later which was negative but no bleeding. Went to doctors who explained it as a very early miscarriage where the egg didn't fully implant. It was another week before I had a very heavy bleed.

I really hope this isn't what is happening to you but for peace of mind insist on a scan.

bunny2 - you always say the right things!

I completely understand how you feel re testing again. At the time I wished I had been oblivious to the fact but in hindsight the best thing was to find out early.

I am sorry I cannot be more positive, and hope you are still pregnant but it might be worth preparing for all eventualities just in case. If it is an early miscarriage be assured that you will get a lot of support on mumsnet. But if you are still pregnant, you will be doubly reassured by having had an early scan.

I cannot log on again until tomorrow evening but I hope you will be ok!

thank you eyelash, at the mo I'm trying not to think too much about it....dd keeps me really busy!!

The thing is dh was never fully convinced aboiut a second baby, but he's as happy as me, and now as worried about this pregnancy, and really hope if this doesn't get through, that he will agree to try again immediately, instead of waiting any longer....

Thank you so much for the support, you have no idea how much it helps, can't wait to see gp tomorrow....
thanks again!!!

Webmum, how are you today? Did you use a different pgcy test each time or do the test at diff times of the day. This early they can be sensitive to subtle changes like that, but the hormones should double after about 36 hours so if you re tested and still got a negative then I would ask for a scan to confirm. They won't be able to tell you for sure though bear in mind until the gestation where a heartbeat is detectable, which is 6 weeks for TVS and 7 weeks for TAS. I'm really rooting for you and hope you get some good news! I bet your off buying more test sticks. Take care!

I ams ure I posted here some time ago but it looks like my post has disappeared!!

anyway, I had a scan yesterday and everything is fine, there is a heartbeat and is in the right place!!!

that was a huge relief!!
I went privately in the end though as GP asked for a scan but request was lost between GP and hospital, GP sec was going to fax it again without checking the fax number first, so I thoght, great it will end wherever the first request went!!

I don't care really, it was money well spent

How strange! Can they explain why you were getting negative tests when you so clearly WERE pregant?! I'm just curious!

Report
webmum · 18/03/2004 14:02

I didn't really ask, I thought it had been a bit silly of me to do so many tests, and since only one was negative I think I might have rushed it a little bit, ie not done it properly, or it might have been a flawed one, you never know!

DOn't really care now!!!

Hey all!!! I am back in action here! So,,,the last tests were a flubb. Gave up completely....now, ov ocured on March 18th, we BD....the following wed nite had bright red spotting. Did a test that nite cause normally my spotting is dark after ov, had faint pos. Did another the next day, neg. So, I bought three more and all three have been faint pos. My AF is not due until this coming Sat...is it too soon for a pos result?? I have my fingers crossed but not too tightly...dont want any dissapointment, you know?!

three faint positives sound like you have reason to be excited....it is so rare for false positives and much more common for false negatives. Any line is considered a positive with those tests - I have had faint lines that are so faint i have held them up to a window to see through the box and squint a bit then debate it some more with my DH - left it a couple of days and the line got stronger. I phoned the helpline who assured me that a faint line indicated a 99% chance of being pregnant and to retest in a couple of days to make myself feel more confident and reassured. If you have not been on any special hormonal treatment, haven?t just suffered a miscarriage and have not just ovulated then it really does look good.
I know that last time you had a false positive but that was likely to be the timing with your ovulation and surge in hormones. If it were me, I would try very very hard not to do any more tests until Saturday morning and then cross your fingers for a nice strong line. Let us know how you get on - bet you have trouble sleeping tonight brom excitement!

Well...did one more test and its alittle stronger and still pos. Sooooo.....I guess this is a good sign , even though my AF is not due until sat. I just pray that this time goes better than the last two. Keep your fingers crossed for me ladies.

Hi, anyone had a pg test where the positive was so faint you could only see it if you stood about 1 foot away from it, or had to turn it slightly away from you. I'm desperate to know.

A line is a line is a line - believe me I thought it could not be true but as these wise old mumsnetters say it is!!

bunny2 · 31/03/2004 14:52

malinki, if you search archived threads on pregnancy tests, you will find this question crops up from time to time. A faint line, even very faint, is almost certainly positive.

I really do thank you all from the bottom of my heart, I have made an appointment for tomorrow morning at 11.40 am to see my GP, I did another test this morning and it is Negative. According to my GP 2 weeks ago she put me at 1-2 weeks pregnant, max. So now I should be 3-4 weeks, surely the test should come clearer and bolder by now. That is all I'm worried about.

Well, I saw my GP on Friday, handed over my urine sample convinced that I was pregnant, have aching boobs, white spots on my nipples (that GP has said are milk ducts) a creamy mucus discharge (sorry I know its lunchtime) and no period. The result has just come back and its negative. What should I do now. My GP looked at my pg tests that I had done at home, on Friday and in her opinion I was pregnant. HELP!!!!!

bunny2 · 05/04/2004 19:35

Malinki, even a doctors test is only 99% accurate. You certainly have symptoms of early pregnancy. My fingers are crossed for you.

Same thing happened to me last Dec - 3 negative tests but still pregnant. They said that when it is early sometimes a certain level of something (it was all a nit blurry so can't remember specifics) stops it showing positive. Hang on in for a few days then try again, but my guess is its positive!

My husband has been having specialised fertility treatment for a rare genetic condition for nearly a year and a half, and it worked!

My period's due in 7 days and I can't stop thinking about it. I've got sore boobs, fatigue and am urinating alot, but I've had symptoms before that came to nothing. I think I want it so much I get them psychosomatically.

I came online initially to find out why I can't take the HPT before my due date. I know now, but I'm horrified by some of the stories I've read online. It all looks so straightforward on the packet!

It's nice to find a site where I can talk to people. My husband is ashamed of his infertility, so I can't really talk to our friends about it. Wish me luck!
