Hi all. I haven't been on here for a while but thought I would come and try find some advice on ttc but I'm well confused now. For starters, wtf is ewcm?
Been ttc since Feb 05. DD1 is 5 now (took 1 year to conceive) and the gap is getting way too big for my liking!

I don't know whether to use ovulation predictors, thermometers, pills. Can someone please give me a basic idiot's guide.

EWCM is egg-white cervical mucus - when you're fertile your cervical mucus looks and feels similar to egg-white. Have a look at \link{http://www.fertilityfriend.com/\this site} - pretty much tells you everything you need to know.

Good luck!

Wow. Shock I can't believe I've got to 30 years of age and didn't know that! I just thought I was a bit minging Blush

The site looks very interesting. Thank you. Do other people use this to chart their cycle etc and do you find it useful?

If you have been trying for more than 12 months then I would seek medical advice.

If your menstrual cycle is irregular as well then I would also seek medical advice sooner rather than later. Also in such circumstances resist doing temp charting or using opk's.

MumOnaMission · 18/05/2006 12:57

Hi Attila. When you say "in such circumstances", do you mean irregular cycle? My periods are pretty regular.

Any idea what they would do if I went to the doc's. Do you think they would give me something to make me more fertile or something to help me check when I'm fertile?

This sounds a really daft question but does anyone know if there is a way of knowing which ovary is releasing the egg?

Hi mumonamission, I've also been ttc and went to the doc earlier this month. I'm also pretty regular. For starters he's given me papers so I can go and have two blood tests, one at 21 days to check progresterone levels, and the other at 2/3days to check follicle stimulating hormone and luteinising hormone levels. He's also given me a little pot for my husband to do the honours with to check how the old tadpoles are functioning...

Also, I've been charting for about four months now and have found it useful just to figure out what's going on. Been handy this month because I found out that I ovulated later than I normally would. As a result, af, (if it comes, but with my luck it will!) will be a few days late. Because I'm expecting this, I won't be getting my hopes up if af doesn't turn up on the day I would previously have expected IYSWIM.

Best of luck!

MumOnaMission · 18/05/2006 13:29

Hi babydriver. Yes that's definitely useful to know - late af's are completely soul destroying aren't they. Lots of other imaginary symptoms seem to turn up at the same time too. I think I will get myself along to the docs then. Good luck to you too.

baby diver thats what i like about tempingm even though we dont want af to come, with temping you know insread of guessing

Hopecat · 18/05/2006 15:18

Yeah, except that when I've temped it hasn't given me any kind of clue, and made me really frustrated. Think it depends on your personality type as to whether you think it'll help you or not.

babydriver · 19/05/2006 17:12

I agree, temping's not for everyone. I find my cm very unreliable so that's why I like it. Still, next month I'll be trying Evening primrose washed down with grapefruit juice and a Robitussin chaser and maybe that will help on the cm front! Plus I'll be on hols in France so that will mean I'm relaxed anyway.

May I suggest you obtain a copy of a book, Taking Charge Of Your Fertility, by Toni Weschler (sp?). This will help you to chart your cycle and look for natural signs of fertility. Trying for over a year is not necessarily a sign of problems, but maybe more innocently not having sex at the right time in your cycle. Even if after charting you still find yourself awaiting pg and decide to go down infertility checks, then having your charts with you speeds up the process because doctors will be able to tell plenty from your charts straightaway.hth

alittlebitshy · 24/05/2006 17:30

also, what is the 2 week window?

we're going to ttc in the autumn (though will be coming off depo so MAY take ages.... argh no!!!) and am trying to get it all straight in my head. dd was a honeymoon surprise baby so never experienced any of this ttc lark before dead excting though,

Hopecat · 24/05/2006 17:41

alittlebitshy: 2ww means 2 week wait - it's the teeth-gritting, toe-curling, gut-wrenching bit between BDing and waiting to see if AF arrives.

Sorkycake: have finally caved and ordered that book from play.com. So many people go on about it I thought it must be worth a look.

sorkycake · 24/05/2006 23:45

I reckon I should be on commission Wink
Good luck to us all!
