Low sperm motility?

Had dh's results back. His sperm count is fine but motility very low.
8% ok
82% wriggling not going anywhere very quickly
10% dead

The sample had to be taken to the lab which took me an hour and a quarter to get there. The dr did say this could have made a difference. There are no facilities for the sample to be taken at the hospital and the hospital is 25 miles away. Unfortunately the traffic was awful so took longer than expected to get there.

They want him to repeat the test. However the dr was all blasé. He said as long as some are swimming they don't really bother because it only needs 1 sperm to get to the egg! But surely the more swimmers the more chance! Not very thrilled with the dr actually.

Any advice? 8% seems very very low.

I've not done much research into it, but DH's figure was lower, and I'm currently 14+3 with our second. His doctor is fab though.

Thanks, that gives me hope!
We conceived first time round quite quickly but proving more tricky this time around.

Dh will repeat the test and we will see I guess. The dr said the sperm count was good so at least that is something because 8% of a good sperm count will be more than 8% of a low one.

Dr google says 40% or less motility is considered abnormal. So we are way below that. :-(
Difficult to know if the car journey didnt help though!

My DH's was rubbish! First one had 0% rapid, about 12% type b (so sluggish). Most of them were duffers. The repeated one was marginally better after him cutting down the alcohol and taking vitamin supplements but still not great. They did some bloods and found an underlying health problem (a growth on his pituitary gland). After they treated it, all the swimmers improved and I got pregnant 8 months after he started treatment.

We were told though even if the results didn't improve we would be candidates for IVF because they could 'spin' the sperm to concentrate it and get the good (ish) ones out.

The sooner, the better with SA though so hopefully without traffic traumas next time it will be better!

Oh the 'motility' I believe refers to the combination of rapid and sluggish swimmers (someone correct me if I'm wrong?!).
