Going to kill the GP

Just started TTC and as I'm on three different kinds of medication I wanted to check if I needed to change any of them. From research I'd worked out that two of them are in the 'probably ok' category but one of the wasn't.

Asked my doctor about the third one - lisinopril - and he said he'd never heard of that issue and we'd look at it again when I was pregnant.

Just checked th NHS web again tonight after being reminded by another post and it categorically states:

do not take this medicine during pregnancy

This medicine is not suitable during pregnancy. It is very important that you seek urgent medical advice if you become pregnant or think you have become pregnant while taking this medicine.

I know it's unlikely that I'm pregnant this cycle (although I haven't got my usual pre AF spotting yet). But if I am I will be really worried.

Making an appointment now, not sure if I want to go back to him or see someone else. Otherwise he is generally a good GP if disinterested like they all are.

GIANT ANGRY PANTS.

See someone else. If he's already cocked that up then you don't want him cocking anything else up. Hope everything's ok.

I've just checked and the precaution with that particular drug is that it is dangerous in pregnancy in the second and third trimesters and therefore you are recommended to discontinue as soon as you find out you are pregnant but you are ok to continue whilst TTC.
So technically your GP was correct.
There are various drugs that are dangerous at different stages of pregnancy.
I can continue on some of my meds up to pregnancy is confirmed, one is fine until the third trimester, one I had to stop 3mth before TTC and some are fine throughout pregnancy.

Get him to double check in his BNF book, and show you if you still require reassurance.
I know that it can be stressful whilst TTC and worrying about the effects of meds that you are taking so seek reassurance if you need it.

Hi wonky legs . I know what you mean about the main risk being second and third trimester, but the manufactures guidance is that if possible it be discontinued before pregnancy. MHRA also say the same.

I'm more annoyed as have quite hard to control blood pressure so I wanted to switch meds and get stable before getting pg.

I completely get your concerns, long standing meds make it all very much more stressful. I would go again and have another chat with your GP expressing your concerns about his/her knowledge. Drugs rarely will state that they are 'safe' for pregnancy as its unethical to test on pregnant women however some have known widespread use and are known to be relatively safe by Drs. Very few will state they are actually safe in pregnancy due to this so you need to rely somewhat on your Drs knowledge.
You need to state your concerns again and why you feel you need to change - discuss pros and cons of your alternatives. If you don't feel satisfied with their response then you need to consider seeing a different dr as they will be looking after you throughout this TTC /pregnancy and you need to have complete faith in them.
I know from experience how hard this is - I've done it once and am in the middle of doing it again (am waiting for a particularly nasty drug with a side effect of miscarriage to clear my system now, takes a few months) and will be phasing others in and out in the coming months.
It's not much fun and requires so much planning; which is currently grating when a friend announced her accidental ( & very much welcomed) pregnancy. (I'm just jealous)
Good luck, hope you get it sorted.
