Anyone had IVF cancelled after EC? <blush> Boobache 10 days later - is this normal?

Hiya, after a little advice as after spending hours some time googling I can't get an answer to my question!

I had [short protocol] EC last Monday & got the call on Tuesday to say the 2 eggs that fertilised had chromosomal abnormalities so we couldn't go ahead with transfer. Obviously I didn't bother with the progesterone after that. BUT since then I've still got the most horrendous boob ache Blush I can't sleep without a comfort bra, I can't go up/down stairs without holding them and I woke myself up last night in pain when I rolled onto my front Hmm

When I google, it's always failed cycles that come up, so therefore they have been on progesterone supplements for 2 weeks and got a BFN, which just isn't the case for me, there shouldn't be any progesterone in my system of note, I'm just waiting for AF to get the memo and get cracking - has anyone got any real life experience that could help me?

My first cycle was cancelled before EC due to poor response and I was so relieved to stop the mental torture buserilin I don't recall any physical side effects so am utterly clueless!

Am I normal? [that's the $64M question lol] I can't really be arsed to speak to the clinic's answerphone if I don't need to...

Hey Scarlett sorry you've had no responses... Mine are still sore too, though I'd assumed it's from the bum bullets I think they were most sore during the FSH and trigger stage. Or maybe I'm just used to the pain now... I guess AF will arrive soon and things will reset, but call the clinic if you're worried. You did have massive FSH doses though.

I know I'm probably being impatient [no change there lol]

Ah well time will tell I guess x

Mine were terribly painful during stimming and the consultant said that's normal and down to the high estradiol levels in ivf. But presumably you still had a trigger shot which would have told your body to ovulate so it may be your body is producing a lot of progesterone naturally.

ScarlettInSpace · 21/03/2013 10:29

thanks Joyce i didn't even think of natural progesterone Blush i think you get so conditioned into feeling nothing works without intervention that you forget your body has its own resources!

my progesterone levels have always been very good only bloody thing that is so you're probably right, hopefully my brain will get the message soon that there's no point prolonging this cycle!

in the meantime I'm using the boobs as a gym-avoidance Smile

Tell me about it Scarlett, I bet if you had your progesterone tested it would be high. I am really sorry you had nothing to transfer by the way. Can I be nosey and ask whether you had pgd with this cycle and why? I am waiting for karotyping results on my husband and me plus cytogenetic testing on 2 little beans after my recent round of ivf ended in m/c. I have been reading up about chromosome testing on embryos but it seems very expensive.

joycep · 21/03/2013 11:51

And yes avoid the gym, I tried running across the road and that was too painful!

Melissakitkat · 21/03/2013 11:55

Hi, the trigger shot before ec contains hcg is a very high does - this is the hormone your body would produce naturally if you were pregnant. The trigger shot and hcg therefore produce preg symptoms like sore boobs. I used to have this every time after ec (ivf 5 times) - once the hcg shot is out of your system (10-14 days after ec) the symptoms will disappear.

Mel x

Oh joy, so sorry to hear that. I was briefly on the 10+ thread blooming ages ago but it was a bit fast moving.

I'm in Thailand and they kept trying to push PGD for us - no reason as it's first ivf cycle - and yes, it's v expensive. I think I'd do it if there was a history of genetic conditions. Assume you've read the entire internet the hfea blurb on it?

Taking my bra off in the evening's so painful!

joycep · 21/03/2013 13:46

Hi keepitgoing (it does move fast that thread- anyone would have thought none of us actually work!) - so do you know the outcome of your ivf yet? We don't have a history of genetic problems in any of our families but this is now 3 babies (2 pregnancies) that haven't developed so we thought it time to check that we don't have a chromosome translocation problem. I haven't read hfea but I will now!
I empathasise. It got to the point where I couldn't actually take my bra off when I went to bed it was so painful!

ScarlettInSpace · 21/03/2013 20:30

Mel thank you - I guess I thought that as I don't usually get sore boobness until a week after ov [or a week before the witch lands, depending how you look at it!] I assumed the trigger wouldn't be the cause but again, I didn't really think of it being so much higher than naturally Wink. 5 times? Goodness me you are brave, the 2 I've done have almost finished me off!

keep taking my bra off at night makes me cry Sad The best £10 I spent so far is 2 x comfort bras from sainsburys @ a fiver each to wear in bed at night Wink [PS I have everything crossed for you tomorrow xx]

joyce Sorry to hear of your loss, hopefully you will have some answers soon. I also lurked on the 10+ thread when I first arrived so I feel like I know you all even though you don't know me Blush I also dip in and out of the BESH too but don't tell them, they had a right rant at lurkers the other week lol but I am on here so infrequently I struggle to keep up with the faster moving threads, it's not worth me joining them!

I didn't have PGD no. As I'm sure you don't need me to tell you, on Day EC+1 any fertilised embryos should be 2 cell [so 50% male & 50% female]. I got 3 eggs, 1 failed to fertilise at all, the 2nd fertilised with only 1 cell & the 3rd with 4 cells, a start like this apparently results in chromosome abnormalities if they even survive much longer hence they are discarded. As it was ICSI we know it wasn't due to extra fishes creeping in so the embryologist & the consultant both said it was driven by egg quality.

My life line is fact that I am a/ 36 not 46 yrs old and b/ there is research out there that points to high level of stims causing defective eggs [I was on the full 6 powders of Menupur] but at the moment I'm struggling to see the bright side if I'm being honest, and the ongoing physical side effects feel even more piontless Hmm

thanks again to you guys for replying x
