Hi,

I haven't posted on here for a while, (I've been lurking Grin ) but I thought is share what I've learnt this week.

We've been ttc since June with no luck so far. My gp has been very helpful and supportive, and suggested that I have the "21day" blood test done in order to check for ovulation.

Since August I have been using the clear blue fertility monitor, and 3 different cycles I have not had a "peak", I know that you don't always ovulate every cycle so I just assumed that this was the case.

This cycle I used the monitor and had my bloods done. The monitor didn't show a peak (and I used it religiously - poas every morning at the same time), however my bloods show that I ovulated.

I spoke to my gp yesterday and he said that they count anything over a 30 result is counted as ovulation, my result was 48, he said this was high.

With such a high result I'm surprised that the monitor didn't pick this up - I've decided after spending nearly £250 on using this method (monitor and sticks) that I'm not going to anymore!!

I'd be very interested to know if this has happened to anyone else!
Wishing u all a very good day and a bfp very soon!! Grin

Hi Raspberry - I've never not had a peak with mine - send an email to the company link here (have been re-reading when is best to DTD on their site which is why I have it to hand) if you explain what you've just said above maybe they will offer a refund or a new monitor? As sounds like yours hasn't been reading the sticks correctly? Worth a shot at least.

Hi chocolate

Ill write them an email this weekend. I've stopped using it as I don't really trust it now!! Thanku for the link, have u had the 21 day bloods done?

Hi raspberry I have yet a peak on mine too although this is the second month and I don't think I have ovulated yet. The first month I got highs all month (day six when it asked me to start testing until I had used all my sticks and on the last day I got a low)

I know I ovulated as I used OPKs last month and I temp as well so wasn't sure why I didn't get a peak. According to my google search this is quite common for the first cycle whilst t baselines your hormone levels. This cycle so far I have had 3 lows and 4 highs so at least it's different? I am OPKing and temping still to see if it catches my peak. I have had my day 21 bloods done and the result was 38 so I know I am ovulating.

I wanted to try the machine so that it would give me warning that my fertile period was approaching as I tend to ovulate on different days each month and wanted to be able to plan ahead (and could use it instead of OPKs etc). Will not be happy if it doesn't even pick up my peak!!

I would contact them and see what they say. Have you had peaks n the other months?

I had problems with the monitor when holding the test stick in my urine stream ... Pee in a cup instead and then insert the test stick ... Had no problems since doing it this way.

Also - to save yourself money on sticks, don't bother testing after your Peak. You can record when your next period starts by pressing and holding the "m" button. The monitor still takes your previous data into account this way.

Froggy2013 · 16/03/2013 01:17

Also - the machine will automatically record High fertility until you get your Peak, when I was testing in my urine stream I also got Highs all month. It is still worth BD every day (unless your DH has a low sperm count) from when you get Highs, as it does pick up the hormone your body releases to prepare for OV.

Hi Froggy,
Thanks for answering.
Fair point about the sticks - I'd kept using them when actually I could have saved myself a fortune if I'd stopped using after the peak.

I'd got a peak when holding the stick in urine stream, I wonder why u didn't bit can when testing from collected urine?

I got a peak on mine the first time I used it, I think that because of this I convinced myself that it was completely reliable.
But now with a high result for ovulation from 21day bloods and no peak on the monitor, I don't think I'm going to continue using it.

I'm going to email clearblue today & see what they say?!

No idea why testing in cup seems more reliable - maybe down to aim?! I did get some Highs when testing in urine stream, and a Peak once I think. Since using cup I have had Peaks every month. I also emailed them at the time, they are really nice. I think it was them who suggested using the cup in fact.

Also - I do remember reading something about initial and mid-stream urine ... I always pee directly into a cup (sorry tmi!), maybe by mid-stream the hormone levels have decreased ?!
