Well I am dusting down the drivers seat and kick starting the April bus for those the BFP fairy missed on the lucky Mad March bus. Fingers crossed the destination for this one is 'Baby Central'.

Evening all!

I have been trying to keep away until closer to my bfp date (to stop myself obsessing!) but I've got a quick question you lovely ladies might be able to help me with.

I have been taking folic acid and vitamin D for a couple of months now. The folic acid is 400 micrograms and the vitamin d is 25 micrograms. In the last couple of weeks I have also started taking the seven seas 'trying for a baby' vitamins which contain 400 micrograms of folic acid and 5 micrograms of vitamin d.

I didn't think anything of taking them all at first but now I'm not so sure. Should I stop taking the separate tablets? Is 800micrograms of folic acid too much? Is 5 micrograms of vitamin d enough?

Any advice would be warmly welcomed!
Grin

lisbapalea · 18/03/2013 20:53

Hi Ganetgob - afraid I don't have the answer but have been puzzling over this kind of stuff myself!

I am taking Seven Seas B6 + Folic Acid - was taking this pre-TTC as heard B6 was good for PMT (was trying to curb my moodiness/tearfulness to try and make things a bit easier for DH - and me - in the week leading up to AF!). Since TTC I have seen people mention B6 being a good thing so am keeping up with it although not sure what the B6 is for! But the folic acid has got to be a good thing so I will keep up until anyone tells me not to!

Am also taking EPO every day, also because of PMT, but wondered if it's good to take it when TTC and if so should I only take it on selected days - have seen people on these threads saying they only take it for the first few days of their cycle?

So I am in an equal muddle! Hopefully someone will come along and help us out!

Bajas · 18/03/2013 21:07

I'm no expert but I think I read somewhere that you shouldn't go above 400 micrograms daily of folic acid. So far as I know the only vitamin supplement to avoid is A but no doubt someone more knowledgeable will be on soon to let you know for sure.

Blondie276 · 18/03/2013 21:13

Hi all!
I read that you should only take epo from day 1 to ovulation day as it isn't good for pregnancy hense only first part of cycle if that helps?

Ganetgob · 18/03/2013 21:30

Hmmm....

Thanks for replying! Perhaps I should ask further afield than our bus to be sure?

I'll be back with a definite answer hopefully!

MotherOfCleo · 18/03/2013 22:02

ganet I dont think you can have too much vit d3 but not sure about the folic acid?

LondonSuperTrooper · 18/03/2013 22:44

I agree with Blondie about taking EPO from CD1 till ovulation a.

I don't know the implications of taking too much folic acid but I doubt it's harmful. A friend was having IVF and she was prescribed 2000mg of folic acid a day!!

LondonSuperTrooper · 18/03/2013 22:44

Sorry for typos in my previous post.

Wardy17 · 19/03/2013 09:08

For the last two days I have had positive OPKs and then today negative. Does that mean I've already ov'd or that I'm about too?

Hi everyone,
can I jump on too please? Some familiar faces from previous buses - I've been keeping my head down for the last cycle or so in order to try and reinforce the 'JS' approach but am caving in again today!

The folic acid question - 400 micrograms is recommended for most women but some have to take 5milligrams (much more!!) for certain health conditions so taking 800 micrograms will not cause any harm. Personally I'd veer towards the higher dose of VitD but that's because working long hours I don't get much sunlight on a regular basis - again at those kind of numbers I don't think you can overdose! Reminds me to go take my own!

TTC number 1, cycle 4 or 5 I think - leads me on to a question of my own - last few cycles have been about 39 days long, last weekend on cd26 started very light spotting which has continued thus far, doubt it's implantation bleed because the timing of DTD doesn't quite add up, has anyone had similar experiences of this and any opinions on whether it's a random light period or something mid cycle?!

LondonSuperTrooper · 19/03/2013 10:38

Hi flowers. I can't answer your post as I have no experience of mid-cycle bleeding. Hopefully one of the other ladies will be along shortly and answer your query.

CD5 for me and I think that I will try and keep away from this thread/board as I get incredibly stressed with this whole TTC process. Doesn't help that my sis fell pregnant on her first cycle.

MotherOfCleo · 19/03/2013 12:26

flowers I had real issues with mid cycle spotting, mine was every month tho not just a one off. I took vit b6 and progesterone cream to stop mine.

marie456 · 19/03/2013 14:49

Yesterday I had some happy news that my friend was 12 weeks pregnant and awaiting her scan next week (got pregnant for #1 cycle 1!) but then today she had some bleeding so was given an early scan and sadly the little one had died. It's so awful. She is having erpc tomorrow. Sad

Re. folic acid I've read that if someone consistently takes more than the rda for a long time then there are certain side effects. Psychotic episodes was one of them! Confused

I've not had mid-cycle spotting either so can't comment. Def could not be implantation bleeding???

I should be ovulating today or tomorrow (only have 11 day luteal phase) but no sign of +opk yet. This is my first cycle of doing temps and annoyingly I feel like I am getting the flu. This morning my temp was 37.9! Yesterday when I felt well it was 36.2! (I only have one with one decimal place- does that matter?) So it looks like I'll have to scrap the temping this month after the anomalies around when I should be ovulating and try it next month. Though of course I am hoping next month it will not be necessary!

We have both been taking pregnacare conception vits since last AF and started using preseed lube for DTD this week Blush

Wardy17 · 19/03/2013 15:40

Got positive OPK Sunday and Monday. This morning was negative. Does that mean I've ovulated already or about to? Also if I'm just about to and my AF is due 31st March that means I have a short lp doesn't it?

Mythreeknights · 19/03/2013 15:55

Hi everyone...can I get on the April bus? Was convinced I was upduffed this month to the point that I actually mis-read a pee stick and it wasn't until my DH pointed out that both boxes needed a line, realised I was not pregnant...then AF arrived with a vengeance today, boiatch.
So...feeling slightly stupid and cautious, I am hopping aboard the April bus brandishing brie, coffee, shellfish and red wine.

Can someone tell me what OPK is and also is there any way of understanding when you are ovulating other than using a kit?

Ttcnumero3 · 19/03/2013 18:26

marie456, really sorry to hear about your friend...

marie456 · 19/03/2013 18:29

Welcome threeknights. I looooove brie! Do you want to add your stats to the list?
OPK is ovulation predictor kit. You pee on a little stick and it tests the luteinising hormone in your pee. I bought 20 off Ebay for abour £2. wardy from the extensive obsessive reading i've done I think the LH surges 12-36 hours before you actually ovulate. Best time to do the shagging is day before you get the positive, the day of the positive and couple of days after??? So if you are expecting AF 31st March that gives you a usual luteal phase of 13-14 days which is the best you can hope for. Mine is 11days which I think isn't great as the uterus lining can start to break down for AF before the little egg even gets there Sad
threeknights the OPK tells you that LH is surging which happens before you ovulate but you can also take your basal temperature (temp first thing in the morning before you get out of bed). Temp rises a day or so after you have ovulated (so by then if you haven't been doing the business you have probably missed your chance). Do you get ovulation pains? I know I am ovulating as can feel it and usually pee on a stick just to double check.

marie456 · 19/03/2013 18:30

thanks numero3. Gutted for her Sad

ELA88 · 19/03/2013 20:03

Oh no marie456 that's so sad :-( xxx

padster75 · 20/03/2013 07:06

marie love to you & your friend, such horrible news.

Hi to all new passengers waves

Me, well this month is complete and utter pants, couldn't organise a p*ss up in a brewery nevermind the tricky goings on trying to get swimmers to meet egg. Think I'm out before we've even started!! Had to start taking my Fexofenadine as hayfever is kicking in with a vengeance (tree pollen sucks big time) so have absolutely no CM to spot. To try and counter that I've started EPO, but still nothing. Temps are all over the place, that's when I can be arsed remembering to take the damn thing. DH couldn't get his ......... well lets just say he isn't getting jiggy with it. Meh, just a big fat MEH!!
