I don't think so - and it is not really unusual these days anyway. I am 40 and am expecting DC3 - and DP is 43. This baby was more planned than either of our other two (aged 4 and 6 now). I don't think it is an issue being older - my parents are in their 60s now and are much 'younger' than when my Grandparents were that age, IYKWIM.

Good luck.

Not at all. Lots of people have babies in their 40s. I was just shy of 40 when I had DC3.

Though I suppose it depends whether this is baby one or not. A third or fourth at circa 40 probably won't raise an eyebrow, but a first might?

I"m 40 and considering ttc dc4. I do worry a little bit about being old for this child, but my family is pretty long lived so I think I have as good a chance as most of being in good health into my 90s. Could be much worse: when mil was born, her father was 67!

I think they are thinking from the view of how it was twenty years ago. I feel 40 now a days is more like 30 in my mums day . My mum thinks its selfish because my child will be embarassed at the school gates. Also I will be old when they hit teens. Hmm

Your not selfish at all. 40 is the new 30 & your probably a lot more relaxed, financially comfortable & happier in your skin than most 20 year olds. Good luck trying

Put it this way, if you can conceive at 41, then obviously nature agrees with you! There are loads of people having children into their 40's, so your child is highly unlikely to be considered the one with the old mum. If you have some energy and are ready to have some fun, your age isn't going to matter as far as your child is concerned
