Conception

When's the best time to get pregnant? Use our interactive ovulation calculator to work out when you're most fertile and most likely to conceive.

Can someone clarify when to actually do it?

Today is the first sign of EWCM, does that mean it's too late, and that the swimmers should already be up there waiting to pounce?

DTD Monday night, I'm wondering whether those ones will have died of boredom by now.

Also, now maybe this is a really daft question, would I still get EWCM if the swimmers were still alive and were in mid pounce right now?

3 times a week, every week. Every day you see EWCM or notice increased wetness.

Get on it girl. Grin

I don't know. It got so complicated when I was TTC that I decided to do it every day as soon as I could after my period right up until my next period....or not. It seemed to work, was pregnant 7 times in 5 years ( had 4 mc, and 3 children ) I just made sure that there was a constant supply of sperm ready for action when Lady Egg arrived. My friend used to ovulate on day 5, and I have ovulated as early as day 7 and 9.

I also used to insert a moon cup after sex in the hope that it would retain the sperm....not advocating this in case it is dangerous in a anyway. I used to go and lie upside down every few hours after intercourse hoping to send more up to coat the cervix.

Lie upside down? Face down or in a handstand position? Grin

Every day?

When conceiving DD the doc said every 48 hours to keep the sperm in good nick.

So, just because the EWCM has started it doesn't mean it's too late?

I think when the EWCM comes is the time to do it, its your body making things easy for the sperm to travel up, and means you'll lay your egg soon.

No need for handstands etc, that'll only catch the lazy sperms, the Mo Farah speed+endurance sperms that stand a chance will be up there already.

FrankellyMyDearIDontGiveADamn · 20/02/2013 17:31

Sperm can live for a maximum of 5 days. The egg will live for a maximum of 24 hours after ovulation. It can take 6-7 hours for sperm to swim up through your uterus and Fallopian tubes so you have a much better chance of getting pregnant if you have sex before ovulation takes place.

The medical advice is to have sex 2-3 times a week.

FrankellyMyDearIDontGiveADamn · 20/02/2013 17:34

Definitely no need to bother with handstands, etc. The majority of sperm will be propelled far enough by ejaculation.

Rightupmyrue - how are you lovely? It's winkle2 here. Would be great to here from you. The girls are in this thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/antenatal_clubs/1649179-BFP-wishes-CAME-true-The-Graduates-Club?msgid=37405717#37405717. I'm still on the conception boards though.

RightUpMyRue · 21/02/2013 21:52

winkle! I'm fine. Getting close to crunch time (I hope nothing does go crunch though!).

How are things with you?

twinklestar2 · 21/02/2013 21:55

How far gone are you?

I'm ok. Still childless :( But in the hands of the fertility people now.OH has been advised to cut alco to see if it helps. If not its on to IVF.

RightUpMyRue · 21/02/2013 22:18

34 weeks, so pretty close to the end, feels unreal still. I think we're in for shock when this baby arrives and we actually have to do stuff with him instead of just thinking about it.

A referral for fertility treatment is good, it means someone has taken your needs seriously and is on your side. Also nice to have someone official tell DP to cut down on the booze too so it's not like it's just you being naggy.

What tests etc have you had done? Is there anything which has come up as an issue?

twinklestar2 · 21/02/2013 22:50

Wow so close. Tedmundo is near the end too. Only thing that had come up is OH's morphology is low. Hence the no drinking.
