Hi
I've now had 2 early m/cs. Going to see GP as not sure what the fuck is going on. Feeling pretty crappy this morning Hmm Has anyone else had this? I did a big of googling and found may be thyroid or hormone imbalance. I'm early 30s don't drink don't smoke don't do drugs exercise regularly have even bought and am religiously following super nutrition book, have been taking prenatal vits not sure what else I can do. Just want someone to tell me it has happened to them and things now ok.

I am so sorry for your losses. You could try hair analysis and vitamin/ mineral supplements through Foresight Preconception. A friend's sister had 6 m/c then did this and now has two healthy boys.

Hi Kat. Just wanted to say you are not alone. I too have axperienced this in 2012. Has been truely heartbreaking. I'm in the process of having blood tests now. I shall be watching this thread for advice if anyone has any x

Chemical pregancies are incredibly common, the statistics vary greatly, just these two websites give different statistics from 25% to 70% I haven't looked at the research statistics properly myself, but most of the fertility/recurrent miscarriage consultants I have seen tend to quote 60% for early (less than 6 weeks) miscarriages.

I know that each of the recurrent miscarriage specialists (I have seen many) that I have talked to, tend to disregard any miscarriage before 6 weeks as being of any significance at all. They are only interested in miscarriages after 8 weeks. This is essentially because they are so common.

They are common because it is normal, I think people test early and know earlier than they used to in years gone by, so people are now aware they occur, whereas previously people would not have known they occur so often.

I have had 12 miscarriages that I know of (like others I could have had other chemical pregnancies that I do not know about!). Three of these were chemical prenancies in that I did not get scanned before I miscarried. Five more were confirmed by scan but miscarried before 6 weeks. Only 4 of them were of any interest to the recurrent miscarriage consultants as they were after 6 weeks with heartbeat present. Most miscarriages occur before the heartbeat starts, which is why they say that after a heartbeat is seen the miscarriage risk reduces to less than 5%.

The common miscarriage before 6 weeks is generally assumed to be due to genetic issues and not of any significance as it is "normal"! If you are concerned then you could get blood tests to check, thyroid, blood clotting etc. If you are getting pregnant then the day 3 and day 21 tests are not so helpful (low progesterone is under dispute as to if this is a cause or result of miscarriage), progesterone supplimentation is being tested currently as it if it helps at all. My experience of progesterone is that it delays the miscarriage but does not prevent it.

I am sorry that you are going through these early miscarriages, and hope that the doctor will look into blood tests for you to help reassure you that there is no other issue going on.

Sorry I mistyped "Five more were confirmed by scan but miscarried before 6 weeks. Only 4 of them were of any interest to the recurrent miscarriage consultants" should have been; five of them were less then 7 weeks but confirmed by scan. Only 4 of them were miscarried after 8 weeks with a heartbeat.

Thanks for replies and very sorry to hear about your troubles too. Heartbreaking and I appreciate you taking the time to respond. My first was 61/2 weeks this one just 5 so not sure dr will take seriously, but will try. Though not nice, has made me not feel so alone knowing other people have the same trouble. I never realised this could happen let alone more than once. I hope it is normal and I can eventually go on to make it to safer 12 weeks. It's so upsetting. I'm going to just try and relax over next three months, not think about ovulation etc etc and then see where I'm at. I will update with what happens to me in the hope ifs helpful for others too xxx

Have a look at the prednisolone thread on here. There are many women on there undergoing investigations or treatment for immune issues that are believed to be linked to miscarriage and implantation failure. Unfortunately your gp is unlikely to be interested in "only" two miscarriages. Hmm. They tend to investigate three and above. But if you have the means you can see someone privately. Gorgy and shehata are the two names that come to mind in London but there are others of course.
