Yes I'm interested to know too. Smile

Do it. Very helpful and gives you an insight onto what's happening in your body.

Bubblegum78 · 15/02/2013 21:48

Hi lightrain,

So how do I do this and what am I looking for? x

I found it helpful.

I used the fertility friend website (there's a free version and a subscription one with a few more bells and whistles). You need a digital thermometer that goes to 2 decimal places. Mine is by BabyMad (via Amazon, I think) and I have been using it close to daily for just under 2 years without a problem. It cost less than a fiver. That it is! FF will email you a charting course when you sign up that tells you everything you need to know.

Thanks Euro I will look into it! x

I recommend it to anyone who is TTC.

Fertility friend explains it all.

Taking Charge of Your Fertility is also worth reading.

We TTC for a year, I got PG but MCed. Tried for another 3 months then starting temping. Was PG within another 3. Currently 33 weeks. Do it. It works. Smile

Hi I would definitely recommend temping - you will learn a lt about your cycle and when you have ovulated etc. You will need to get a BBT (basal body temperature thermometer) which is more sensitive than a regular one (i got a one from amazon for £5). If you sign on to fertility friend website, the basics are free and you get a free tutorial on how to temp etc.

Good luck!

Thanks ladies.. will def give this a go! :-)

We have been ttc for 9 months and I temped for 4 months.

Pros: really gives you solid confidence and knowledge of when you ovulate and you can see the pattern in cm changes with temp shifts.

Cons:having to take temp first thing in the morning meant I was thinking abt temp rises and dips all day and it got very stressful in the 2ww and before OV as you are monitoring your body so closely. Dtd became too times if you know what I mean.

I have stopped now but it was good for me to know I do ovulate and I now know what my luteal phase is etc.

Tip: I found it a strong guarantee of Ovulation using OPKs along with temping and loved seeing positive OPKs coinciding with temp rises.

farmersdaugther · 16/02/2013 18:20

Also if you get up at 5am to have a pee take your temp then even if you normal get up at 7am. You don't need to retake your temp at 7am.

Worth remembering if you can! Wink

Taking Charge Of Your Fertility is a very interesting read. Wish I'd read it years ago.

MrsBombastic · 16/02/2013 21:58

Thanks peeps this is all fantastic info, I really apreciate the input. x Grin

keepitgoing · 17/02/2013 01:52

I agree with robin, I found it stressful. It can't make you pregnant, if youre dtd regularly there's not a lot it can add? I get it can be helpful to reassure you you're ovulating, or to ease off dtd later in the month, but I've seen some people v obsessive, spending ages finding charts Luke theirs to prove they're pregnant.

Perhaps try it for a couple of cycles, get to know your cycle, and see if you can be calm about it like some of these lovely ladies, or are a nutter, like me...

:)

I just bought the babymad thermometer on amazon after reading this thread! £4.99 isnt bad and i had an amazon voucher anyway... ive recently come off the pill and my cycle is all over the place so might help me work out where i am.

honey86 · 17/02/2013 15:02

helps me alot u can use the patterns on fertility friend to cross check your symptoms. i did it wiv all my 3 in conjunction with cb ov tests and got preg quickly x

FrankellyMyDearIDontGiveADamn · 17/02/2013 15:13

It's worth noting that charting cannot tell you when you will ovulate, it can only tell you after it has happened and you then compare several cycles to get an idea of your usual pattern.

There is no specific temperature that you need to look for, it is all about identifying a sustained upward shift in your temperatures which occurs after ovulation.

gillian1986 · 17/02/2013 20:57

I read that a minimum 0.4 increase can mean that you could be ovulating? Is that wrong? I know it's better to chart it for a few months though... I'm confuuuuuseed!

AmandaCooper · 17/02/2013 22:40

No. As said up thread, it only tells you that you have ovulated, not that you're going to or currently are. So it won't tell you when to start dtd but it will tell you when you can stop, which is not at all a bad thing!

gillian1986 · 18/02/2013 09:50

Haha! That's a good thing lol!

FrankellyMyDearIDontGiveADamn · 18/02/2013 13:16

You are looking for a thermal shift of around 0.4 degrees, but for some people it is more/less.

The rise happens the day after ovulation and you need at least 3 days of sustained rise to be able to confirm ov has happened.
