Help with symptoms (possible ovulation)

Hi everyone, I'm new to the board. Nice to meet you. :-)

This is our first month of ttc and I have no idea when or if I ovulated. I have never in my life "felt" ovulation -- although I know it has happened at least once because I've been pregnant once before (he turned 7 on Sunday)!

My last period arrived on Jan 23 and lasted for 5 days. My partner and I started ttc on the 31st and have dtd every day since (as I have no idea when I ovulate, I figured starting early and often gave us the best chance). We are using Preseed to help us as I have some problems with dryness.

Today I have suffered with some terrible symptoms. As I've never felt ovulation before, are these symptoms an absolute sure sign I am ovulating today? Or are they post-ovulation symptoms? Even though I hate these symptoms as they're causing me no end of pain and discomfort, I'm kind of clinging to them because at least it means I have a sign something's actually happening in there! I've Googled but everywhere gives you conflicting information, and where better to ask than fellow ladies trying to conceive who are going through the same thing! The symptoms are:

  • Extremely painful and sensitive breasts and nipples, including shooting pains/spasms.
  • Sudden appearance of dark blue veins across areola & nipples. I've not seen these before.
  • Milky-white/creamy discharge.
  • Sharp coccyx pain, especially when laying/sitting (ie. putting pressure on it).
  • Aching pain in right hip.
  • Dull lower tummy ache.
  • Sharp pains around navel area.
  • Overwhelming tiredness/fatigue, not helped by sleeping.
  • Really hungry.

I never have these things happen to me even in the lead up to menstruation (most I get normally is a bad mood and a little cramping), let alone when I'm supposedly ovulating! It's all so new to me. We decided we were going to try for three months without any assistance (other than the Preseed to make dtd more comfortable) and then after that we'd start purchasing kits and thermometers and all sorts to help us figure out what's happening when.

TBH, I'm not sure how I'm going to manage each month with all of these symptoms (if they are indeed signs of ovulation and I'm about to get them every month from now on). If it were just one or two, I'd be fine, but all of them at once leaves me in a lot of pain all over the body and extremely uncomfortable! But that's the price we pay to make things happen, eh? Have to live and deal. :) I also have no idea why I'm suddenly getting them this month and never before. We were using condoms rather than the Pill so coming off contraception can't be the reason. The woman's body is a mysterious thing, I suppose.

Any information would be much appreciated, and I thank you for helping me get started on this exciting and terrifying journey!

Could be, could be coincidence.

My experience was that with the hyper vigilance of any physical symptoms that comes with ttc, I experienced all sorts of aches, pains etc that I'd never noticed before. I suspect it was partly just paying attention, partly psychosomatic, partly coincidence and just ascribing anything unusual to ovulation or conception.

The good news is that it didn't happen every month!

If this month isn't your month, how about reading up on temping/charting or monitoring other signs such as cervical mucus? It didn't work for me (got pg after 3+ years trying, long after I'd chucked the thermometer and left it all to chance..) but it gives you something to do if nothing else..

www.fertilityfriend.com/ is useful if you do decide to see if you can spot ovulation through monitoring physical symptoms.
