Hi Hamling
Just thought I'd add some ideas that might help you. I've struggled with weight forever and I try to just keep myself under control now. Here's some suggestions of things that have worked for me. Sorry if they are teaching you to suck eggs, but just offering you some advice on what I do.
You could try to build some exercise into your day by taking the stairs instead of the lift/ escalators when you can. Can you walk to work or get off the bus a couple of stops early? Can you go for a walk at lunchtime - just for 10-15 minutes? If you pop out to buy lunch, choose a shop that's just a bit further away maybe.Or just go round the block - it'll boost your metabolism. Little things like that can make a really big difference.
Can you clear your cupboards out of all the naughty foods you have?
Plan meals and snacks in advance as this will stop you from straying and from panic eating/buying. I always takes my lunch to work so I know exactly what I will be having and I don't have to choose when I am hungry. I pretty much always have soup for lunch in autumn and winter as it keeps you fuller for longer because of the amount of fluids in it.
I've tried to cut down on my caffeine intake and I now allow myself only one coffee or tea a day. The rest of the time I drink herbal tea or water. This will stop you from having those up and downs you feel sometimes.
I try to have something with oats in for breakfast as they definitely fill you up. I can go for about 3-4 hours on a bowl of porridge in quite a demanding job. I put fruit and honey on the top sometimes to make it nicer and to give me more fibre. You could also try something like Weetabix or Shredded Wheat which have the same effect on keeping blood sugar a bit more constant.
Don't deny yourself foods, but just try to cut them down, e.g allow yourself a fun-sized bar of chocolate a couple of times a week and build it into your eating plan. That way you won't feel deprived and you'll look forward to it more. You'll be more likely to stick to it too.
Get you OH doing it with you. You really need his support and you can tell him that he needs to be eating healthily too for his little swimmers. Get him to support you in the exercise - maybe go jogging together when the weather gets a bit better, or swimmingh and hold each other to it. Try to motivate each other and remember why you are trying to do it in the firstplace. Thsi may be a bit extreme, but I have stuck a photo of my baby niece to the fridge to remind me to stay on track myself when I go wandering for food.
Sorry - this is such a long post. I hope it's of some use to you. If you really want to do it though, you'll find a way. I also sometimes watch vids on Youtube that will motivate me, e.g. sometimes I do a quick yoga session, or I watch someone else's weight loss pics thing - maybe I'm sad, but it keeps me on track because I always think, well, if they can do it, so can I!
Best of luck to you. x
Oh yes, and there's the dieting threads on MN too!
