Hi im a newbie , bit of backstory .
I have a daughter who is 4 and we have been ttc no 2 since she was 6 months oldish so have been ttc for nearly 4 years. We concieved our daughter in the first 3 months of ttc and periods were like clockwork, but since she was born i have up till now only had 4 periods ( 2 of which because of norethisteron ).

I suspected pcos because of irregular periods and excess hair so went to doctor last year ,who was pretty brutal to be honest , she said its because im overweight ( i am by about 8lbs ) and that im too young to be ttc!! i tried explaining that periods stopped and excess hair started before i gained any weight i was just over 8 stone when periods went, so not convinced thats to blame . Anyway finaly gave in after much nagging from my partner and went back last week and my new gp has been fantastic, she suspects pcos and has arranged a scan and gynagologist appointment , I am actually getting excited that hopefully might get somewhere now , does anyone know roughly how long i will wait for appointment ? and what will happen at appointment ? should partner attend too ?
sorry its so long and thanks for reading .

PCOS can be diagnosed by blood test if you have the syndrome as it causes hormone irregulation, or by ultra sound / lapraoscopy if you just have poly cystic ovaries.

As for when your appointment will be, that depends entirely on the department, but they tend to be reasonably quick. You can take your partner if you, though they may well do an internal examination.

Glad your new GP is being helpful at least, old one sounds like a nightmare. Problems with weight can also be a symptom of PCOS, by the way.

It's just an ultrasound scan like when you are pregnant. The technician is supposed to send the results to your gp and you go to them for your diagnosis but mine said "whoa, that's a lot of cysts!" So I kind of guessed!

I got pg, after diagnosis, with twins so please don't despair just yet.
