Have name changed

I am being treated at a clinic and they are prescribing progresterone and Gonal F to start in a couple of months time.

I know it will be on a private prescription but not sure how to get prices from each chemist/company. Do i just call the local asda/tesco?I know this sounds really silly but i just dont know.

Any other advice will be appreciated as i have never had to get a private prescription or had to take medication.

Thanks

The pharmacy may not have them in stock so call ahead. They can give a quote over the phone.

Definitely worth shopping around. Asda are used to giving quotes as they are competetive at pricing. Also ask your clinic if they recommend a particular company and get a quote from them. Your clinic may have a link with one company, which may or may not be competitive. I found Central Homecare and Healthcare at Home good for certain items. If you shop around you may find some places cheaper for different items, so can ask for your private prescription to be split into how you want it for different companies. Some companies deliver, especially items that need keeping refrigerated.

Asda has a policy of providing IVF drugs at cost price so probably will be cheaper than anywhere else although they don't deliver as far as I know. I am going there for my prescription and it is about 30% cheaper than my IVF clinic so definitely worth it. I rang my local ASDA pharmacy and checked the prices of all of my meds and the lady I spoke do was very familiar with it so I didn't feel awkward.

Progesterone (Progynova, probably) is easy to get at most chemists and not too expensive. I used Central Homecare for Gonal F. It's about £90 and delivery is free because it's over a certain value. Not sure if you are being prescribed a trigger shot too, like Ovitrelle. If you are, Central Homecare were cheaper than any of the pharmacies I got quotes for. It's about £20. They charge delivery of £14 but if you order it at the same time as the Gonal F you won't have to pay delivery. My consultant used to send my prescriptions straight to them.

Thank you everyone for your help.

I hadn't thought of getting the trigger shot when i get everything else so that has already saved me some money.

Does anyone else know of any other companies that we could try but also how do we know that the companies are ok?

Central Homecare, HealthCare at Home, Asda, Boots plus whatever your clinic uses are all ok - they are what the major IVF clinics use or people use for private prescriptions. Am sure all registered chemists are ok as regulated etc.

Yes you must ring around every where you can think of, it's amazing the difference in prices. I've used healthcare at home-excellent service and delivery. Where are u? If u are anywhere in London I found ali's in shadwell the cheapest by far

Also, strangely, different branches of the chains (Asda, Tesco, Boots etc) have varying prices from what I can remember. I think the really big stores are cheaper, or possibly the more out of the way ones. Not sure how it works.
