Accidentally conceiving from withdrawal method?

Is this so rare as to be not worth the worry? Has it happened to anyone?

I ask because DH and I did this 4 days ago, on the day I was ovulating, and now I'm feeling rather paranoid that I'm pregnant. My symptoms are sore breasts and lots of gloopy discharge, something - eek!- I think I recall from my first pregnancy. Ejaculation was definitely outside the vagina but I know the other fluid emitted before can sometimes contain sperm.

I've got a 5 month old son and we definitely wanted to wait a little longer before another one! I know, dumb not to use contraception, particularly on the ovulation day, but it was actually only the 2nd time we've had penetrative sex since I gave birth due to me not feeling like it, so it all happened a little unexpectedly.

I know I'm probably worrying for nothing, and TBH I personally wouldn't be devasted if I was pregnant, but I know DH would be terrified.

I'm not really sure how you can tell if you're 'ultra-fertile', but I had no trouble conceiving DS1 after just a month of trying.

That doesn't necessarily mean ultra-fertility. I conceived dd1 without trying at all (and there was me, swearing I could use the rhythm method no problems) but it took six months to conceive dd2.

Mind you, that's pretty good going in your late 30s so perhaps I am after all.

The withdrawal method of contraception should only be used if you don't mind accidentally falling pregnant

sibble · 11/01/2004 18:53

I am not advocating it but DH and I have used this method for 8 years and have only been pregnant 3 times, by choice(ish). Spare you the ish details.

nutcracker · 12/01/2004 09:44

nutcracker · 12/01/2004 09:58

Not brave, just stupid

lydialemon · 12/01/2004 09:58

Just thought I'd add to the numbers and say that DS2 was a result of this too!

motherinferior · 19/01/2004 11:10

oooooops, girls, look at celandine's new thread...I AM premenstrual, I AM I AM...

celandine · 19/01/2004 13:06

Oooops indeed. As per my new thread I reckon I now have the answer to my question - can you accidentally concieve from withdrawal method - it's YES YES YES!

Motherinferior - in a way I wish I was pre-menstrual, but then again I loved being pregnant so it might be a nice 9 months ahead for me. It's just the thought of another baby that scares me!

M2T · 19/01/2004 14:06

Celandine - I thought on your other thread you just said it might be an evaporation line? Have I missed something?? I'm confuuuuuuuused.

suzywong · 19/01/2004 14:08

Wow Celandine, I thought you nickname was familiar on the other thread.
Congratulations

melsy · 19/01/2004 14:20

God this has got me worried. Dh and I did IT!! for the first time since before preggers and we didnt put the condom on straight away UH OH. I had even written on here about SEVERE ovulation pain the day before at bout 16 days into cycle, but I got extremely turned on for first time in a long time and didnt think. I am going to be sooooo worried whilst waiting for period. ShT ShT ShT ShT Sh*T. DD is only 4 months and I had TERRIBLE birth. Really really really worried now. Didnt want 2nd one till nxt year.

celandine · 19/01/2004 14:21

Sorry everyone - I've somehow got two threads going now, which is very greedy of me. I shall have to drop one, just can't decide which!

The facts are that I've taken a test which came out negative yesterday and now it's positive cos a faint pink line has appeared.

I feel pregnant and am sure I am, have actually convinced myself I am but have jumped the gun a bit by announcing I am Sorry - I'm too revved up. I'll let you all know when I'm 100% sure.

melsy · 19/01/2004 14:25

Wasnt sure if u would go back to other thread, see below:

Are you sure they are not ovulation symptoms. I had the same symptoms before my naughty episode on your other thread.I never got them before baby around ovulation.

suzywong · 19/01/2004 14:29

celandine are you still BF btw?
I just remembered I am in a similar situation to you and melsy - we all got the 4 month frisky feeling-but I am 100% ignoring it

melsy · 19/01/2004 14:33

I didnt know about the 4 month thing any more info on that??

Celadine are u there???

melsy · 19/01/2004 14:34

sooreee celaNdine. DD's crying is bothering me,must get her from cot.

celandine · 19/01/2004 14:34

Melsy, my dh didn't even ejaculate until a few minutes AFTER he'd withdrawn, so I really am stunned about how it happened. Saying that of course we did do it on my ovulation day, if I've charted correctly. I had bad ov pains on, before and after that day. We also did it 5 days before ov day, but dh didn't ever ejac, even when he pulled out so I'm kind of discounting that session for some reason.

If I really am pregnant (see my other thread on test changing from neg to pos) I am truly stunned at how careful people should be.

suzywong · 19/01/2004 14:36

Melsy it's just that we all seem to have got horny 4 months after the babies were born and hadf quickies without protection.
