Cramping 10 day DPO, BFN test, then unusually bad AF. What's happening?

Bit of background first. Finished the pill eight months ago to prepare for conception - I have mild PCOS with left hand side cysts. Despite this I have had regular 26 (sometimes 25) day cycles since then. My periods have been pain free with a day of spotting beforehand.

This month everything has changed. I am pretty sure I ov-ed this month (OV pains on my right side, temp rise + OPK etc suggested on CD15) and managed to get some bed action in about 24 - 36 hours prior to that.

On CD23, thats 9DPO I got some sharp lower abdominal pains, just like OV pains which I thought was a good sign. Sorry if TMI but overnight I got loads of CM (unusual for me) and was feeling incredibly aroused (also pretty unusual and DH didn't know what hit him!). I thought that these were all good signs and prepared to test later in the week. I tested 11DPO, 12DPO (period due date) and 13DPO. All negative.

In the meantime my symptoms lessened, although I was still experiencing some cramping, and what I thought was my usual spotting turned up on 11DPO, only to disappear the following day. But yesterday evening, the day of my final BFN, my period finally turns up along with some really awful cramping.

Last night I was kept awake because of it and this afternoon, I was felt exhausted and had to go to bed - luckily I was off work today.

I am at a loss to work out what is going on. The cramping, fatigue, being a day or two late and on and off spotting aside, my AF seems normal - no heavier than usual.

Had it not been for the negative tests I would have suspected early loss because of the very clear symptoms, which disappeared. Does anyone have any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Same happened to me when we were TTC DS2. I always assumed a very early loss because it was so painful and a couple of days late which never happens. Would your hormones have had time to register a BFP? I didn't think so but I am no expert.

I hope you feel better soon and you get the BFP soon too.

Thanks for your reply Bertha! Sorry to hear it happened to you too and great that it worked out for you.

You might be right about the tests. I am feeling OK. A little disappointed but if it was an early loss it is at least a sign that some things are working properly. I am seeing my doctor next week so might ask them about it.

I hope the doctor will be able to explain what might have happened. They will probably say it is just one of those things but as you say, at least things are working properly and that is something positive to take from it. I reckon it will be your turn for a real BFP soon. Smile

Like you I was a bit disappointed but I think it would have been worse if I had the BFP. It is probably a blessing not to get one although we will both always wonder. Smile

Thanks. Doctors tomorrow - I hope they do shed some light on what happened. Yes, think the BFP would have made it worse, though we'll never know.
