What does Clomid actually do?

I am pregnant and have had lots of scans due to heavy bleeding. Every time I've had a scan they have said "So, you were taking Clomid, right?" and then been surprised or disbelieving when I say I haven't.
I've been too worried about the bleeding to wonder why before and stupidly I have never asked, but I just saw a Clomid topic in active conversations and it reminded me.
Would anyone would know why I seem to look like I've had Clomid?

Clomid is used to help you ovulate. It is usually given to women with Polycystic ovaries so it is possible you may have some cysts on your ovaries that show up on the scan. They are nothing to worry about, but they can get in the way of ovulation.

Clomid's main job is to make the ovaries work harder. It is often the first line of treatment where PCO or PCOS is seen. Polycystic ovaries can be problematic as some of these cystic follicles are dormant, others produce hormones and one may have an egg within it.

I did know I have some ovarian cysts, and fibroids. They were pondering on whether to take the larger cysts out during my second trimester.

I guess they're expressing surprise that I didn't have too much trouble conceiving?

(I typically don't have periods for months and months actually, so I was lucky not to have to try for too long.)

Is clomid some thing your gp can prescribe ?

I think some Drs can (i'm sure my friend got hers from the gp) but I had to have mie from a specialist as Dr said she wasn't allowed.

I had to get my Clomid prescription from a Fertility consultant. I don't think GPs are willing/able to prescribe it as you need to be monitored whilst taking it with blood tests and ultrasound scans.
