Close to 3 years of TTC #1. The last year has been swallowed up in the excruciating climb up the NHS ladder. DH 44, myself 34 (times a tickin!)
Have had SAs, (low morphology I thought) but nurse at appt.#1 says nothing to fear. I have variable cycles, length ranges from 28-33 days. Day 3 'normal', Day 21 no ovulation (but I figured out later that the timing of test was off).
And finally after months of waiting, and spending a small fortune in vitamins, we get to see the actual consultant!
I want them to throw everything they have at me, hold nothing back - poke, prod, zap, drug, do a woo woo dance.
What can I ask them to do and how do I make sure I don't get fobbed off?
How do they check if I'm ovulating? How do they check if the tubes are clear and ready for launch? Do they check egg quality/quantity? Do they just drug you up and send you on your way?

Are you an old BESH?? Or a current one under a name change?

fertilityFTW · 07/09/2012 16:54

BESH threads lurker and habitual NCer Blush

Sorry, to answer your actual questions though, if 3/21 test shows no ovulation, I would be asking for Clomid or something else to stimulate your ovaries.

Northey · 07/09/2012 16:56

Why not come and post for real? If you can be mean and cynical at appropriate moments you'll fit right in...

Unless of course you are an ex-BESH who has name changed. Hmmm.

fertilityFTW · 07/09/2012 17:02

Inevitably, by the time I get to the bottom of a BESH thread I have lost all perspective and for some reason develop a bit of a swagger, it frightens DH. Also I don't think I can keep up with you ladies!

OP posts:
Northey · 07/09/2012 17:06

We are all a bit swaggerless at the moment...

Anyway, how come it has taken so long to get to the consultant??

fertilityFTW · 07/09/2012 17:22

Waiting times in our neck of the woods are rubbish. Everything took aaaaages.
Also, we really weren't bothered early on, thought we'd done well to avoid any accidents on route Grin - we must be really clever! And now that we're ready to put a down payment on a family car - we'll just do away with precautionary measures and diffedness!
But we're wiser now (and older unfortunately) and want to go in swinging this time. Last time was totally lost in the woods - DH went fifty shades of purple when he heard how long we'd have to wait to see an actual consultant as opposed to nurse.

Hello undefined BESH! I would think you need more day '21' tests. My GP did 3 cycles because he said that was the only way to get accurate results. They will take a fair bit of history from you both. I would say you need a fanny cam pelvic ultrasound to have a look at your ovaries to see if they are ok/have any cysts on them. They should also do an HSG which will be sticking dye up your cervix to see the state of your tubes. However if they think from your history you have endo they may go straight to a lap and dye. I would ask:
What they plan to do
What the time scale is
What the options are if there are any problems
What the criteria for IVF is if you need it (I didn't ask and I should have because I really should have been shedding more weight between appointments!)

Does that help a bit?
ps who the flip are you?! do you like nice weather? Sail the seven seas?! Hmm

fertilityFTW · 07/09/2012 21:27

That helps enormously! I'm planning on getting DH to sit and memorise this tomorrow, cause my brain stopped working a while back so as he feels useful! Will skulk into the threads proper after, just feeling a tinge hysterical about now, and dunno what'll come out of my mouth Grin. I live you ladies I do. Best thing about being a BESH is the company Wink.

DH?! DH?! you sure you're a BESH?! Wink just enter the hippy fred, we're all off our heads anyway :)

Northey · 07/09/2012 21:46

Just don't call him DH, say something witty and slightly mean about baby dusters and you will be fine. Especially if you are wearing a poncho knitted from your own armpit hair.

I have a spare skirt woven from cabbage leaves

So when is your consultant visit anyway?

fertilityFTW · 08/09/2012 08:59

Toooosday. Which is unfortunately the prickly stage in between the body hair maintenance cycle, but I make no apologies.

And how is that you assume you know what 'D' stands for anyway?

HaveALittleFaith · 08/09/2012 09:04

I went for a full body massage last winter. 'twas only as she got towards my legs I realised I couldn't remember when I last shaved them! Hmm

So do we know you under another name?

Toosday is not long to wait now!

fertilityFTW · 08/09/2012 09:17

Sadly, I have yet to make your acquaintance all proper, I'm just a cowardly lurking, scavenging around the edges sort to date.

Yep, not long now, but at least 3 years too long in some respects. Have had to purchase little clicker counter to keep track of baybees popping out all over bloody Facebook.

OP posts:
HaveALittleFaith · 08/09/2012 09:23

Oh you should wade in! Find the BESHtionnaire, put your answers in and stick in on the Fred!

sinkyroselee · 08/09/2012 09:26

How to fit massive bag of issues and insecurities?

Like we all do, in a hand woven Eco shopper crafted from autumnal leaves and mouse spit.

Seriously. There is no lack of ishues over our way. And it's a lot easier than traipsing all the way to this fred.
