IVF Down Reg - a couple of questions about side effects...

Hiya all,

I started down reg injections on Friday and I have a couple of questions that don't really warrant speaking to the nurses do I thought I'd draw on the experience of you lovely lot Grin

  1. My week routine & weekend routines are sooo different [we have SKs at weekend] so could be a good hour difference in injection times, does this matter or should I really be doing it at exactly the same time every day?
  1. Every morning I've felt really really sick for about an hour after breakfast which I've been having after my injection, has anyone else had this? It doesn't say anything about not eating after but I wondered if it was normal and should I change my routine?
  1. Any idea when I can expect all the hideous side effects I've been warned about?

Ta muchly x

Scarlett,

I tried to keep my injection times within an hour. I didn't have any advice on that, it was just my own limit.

I didn't feel nauseaous that i remember.

My side effects got really bad the second week I was on the drugs. So bad I felt I had to stop the cycle, but I was an extreme case.

Hi Scarlett day 2 of injections here and I forgot to take mine at the same time as yesterday, it was an hour later. I looked on the patient information leaflet in the box the vial came in and it said if you've forgotten a dose then to take the next one as soon as possible, I personally think within an hour should be fine, but then again I'm not a nurse/dr, I think it's a legitimate question to ask your nurse if you are really worried.

I was also given advice from the clinic that I should be drinking 2/3 litre more of water daily on top of my usual amount, don't know if that helps with the feeling sick though, but just thought I'd mention it.

Hope you're otherwise ok!

Hi Euro, can I ask what side effects you got?

ScarlettInSpace · 03/09/2012 07:51

Hi euro thanks for your reply, I do
remember reading about your decision to stop the cycle, hope you're in a better place now.

solars so far the 'morning sickness' is all I've had (how ironic)

I'm going to try leaving breakfast til later today so we'll see!

Hi Scarlett, I was on a nasal spray to down reg, so slightly different but I kept my doses to within an hour (had to do 12hrs apart). If I knew I couldn't take it at a certain time, eg on a weekend, I'd spend a few days in the run up to it slightly delaying each dose, 'stretching' it out if you like! However I often found myself having to take the drugs on the tube, in a public loo, walking down a street... A little easier with a sniffer than injecting though! Grin

As for side effects, I was lucky and don't really remember any, not everyone will experience some/all of the possible ones, so try not to worry. I was paranoid mine wasn't working as I felt pretty normal. It seems it did work as I'm 7 weeks 2 days now and am having my viability scan (awful term!) tomorrow!

Good luck with your cycle!

Hello Scarlet

As with Jumping I had next to no side effects with DR either (possibly a bit of a headache on occasions but nothing more that than that) and wasn't convinced it was actually working (it was by the way !). As it happens I didn't really have any side effects with stims either. I joked to DP that if someone had given me the injections without me knowing I may have thought I felt a 'bit odd/under the weather' but nothing more than that ....... !

Doubt it makes any difference but I took all my injections at night and went to bed an hour or so after taking them (so maybe I just slept through any side effects !!) My clinic told me to inject in the evening so that (albeit more relevant to stimming) if you needed to adjust the dose as a result of a scan/blood test you could do so the same day. It always amazes me how differently every single clinic approaches things ..... !

All the very best to you with your cycle. We are starting our second cycle in a couple of weeks so will be joining you in DR !

x

PS : Jumping - Congratulations an all the best with your scan !

jumpingjackhash · 03/09/2012 10:11

Thanks missbrightside!

Funny you were told to do stimming injections in the evening - I was told the morning! Seems every clinic has their own way of doing things! Good luck with your second cycle!

ScarlettInSpace · 04/09/2012 11:32

jumping I'd probably fit right in on the tube with my injections, in some parts of London Grin

I was told the morning for all of it, maybe its in case you forget you've got all day to catch up maybe I just looked like the kind of person who would forget lol

solars my acupuncturist said yesterday that the extra water is during stims, again odd how there's such different advice out there!

Nice to hear that a couple of people haven't had side effects too, I guess normal is that there is no normal Wink

Good luck missbrightside for later this month and jumping for today x
