Hello, you will need to inform midwife at booking in appt and you will be monitored closely throughout your pregnancy, regular blood tests etc and you will probably see a consultant at some point too.

Thanx for your reply! My last thyroid test came back fine so the doctor said I shouldn't have any problems but its been so up and down the last 6 years so its always at the back of my mind. Do you have thyroid troubles too?

Hi Tinksabella82. I'm TTC at the moment and have had over active thyroid off and on for the last five years. I discussed TTC with the consultant last time I had a check up and they said there was no reason at all not to have a family but that during the pregnancy I would need to go to the clinic for regular tests as it can go fluctuate under/over during that time. They were very positive about it and said it was quite manageable. You just need to let the midwife know and they should refer you for the appointments. Good luck!

Yes I have an under active thyroid and am currently 18 weeks pregnant. I have needed extra thyroxine to counter my usual symptoms of fatigue and lack of energy. It's common to need more thyroxine if you're hypo thyroid during pregnancy. What I would say is push for a quick referral as I only saw my consultant last week and felt awful up till that time, now on higher dose and feeling much better. Good luck Smile

I have a seriously underactive thyroid to the extent that the doctor described it as effectively dead. I get preg at the drop of a hat. Had to have extra thyroxine during the pregnancy and put on a bit more weight than the average but don't worry itsshouldn't affect your fertility.

I had my thyroid removed this May - had Graves and while doctors have differing opinions about the condition and treatments, the two endocrinologists I spoke to did not recommend getting pregnant if Graves is not under control or if taking the medication to control it. What kind of trouble do you have? If just underactive then that's easy to manage during pregnancy, you just need more thyroxine.
