Anyone with any experience of Monorchism and TTC?

So, DP and I have recently entered the TTC club Smile. I took my last Microgynon on 3rd August. I am 29, DP 31 (not sure why this is relevant but nevermind) Grin.

Does Monorchism affect TTC? Does anyone have any experience of this.

Reading online gives conflicting views as to whether or not it can effect fertility. I imagine it is hard to research as not many men would be willing to discuss it?

I'm not even sure how common it is. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Has he had a semen analysis? You could ask your GP to send him for one - you could tell a little white lie about how long you have been ttc.

Has he always just had one testicle or has one been removed? If he has an undescended testicle he needs to be seen by a urologist as the undescended one has a high risk of becoming malignant.

Sorry for being nosy but I know a bit about male factor infertility and the chances of him being OK really depend on why he only has one testicle. In any event it could save you a lot of heartache and time getting a semen analysis just in case there are any problems. In theory one should work as well as two (that is why there are two, each works at about 50% capacity) but if there were problems early on then the remaining one may not be working well.

Is DH quite 'manly' - does he have plenty of body hair and need to shave reasonably often?

lol @ manly. If he doesn't shave for a week he looks like the dancing Berroca Lumberjacks. It grows so quickly he just doesn't bother in winter, just trims the beard.

As far as I know it is just undescended and he had been this way since childhood.

I can't really lie to the GP about TTC, My GP knows me and knows when my last request for the pill was. I have no idea if he is even registered with a doctor. He's never been to one in the 6 years I've known him.

May be usful to add - DP was extremely premature when he was born. He has hearing problems from under developed ears. We think the undropped may be because of his being early but not sure. He also reckons he knocked it quite hard when about 8 while bike riding, but doesn't all boys do that at some point?

If you have a bit of spare cash, private sperm analysis seems to work out at about £300 - could be worth it?

I think given his history your GP should just send him for a semen analysis.
The undescended testicle could very well be related to his prematurity - the testes grow inside then move into the scrotum in late pregnancy.
Where do you live? I know someone in Derbyshire who does cheap fertility checks and consultations.
I'm not saying there will be a problem BTW, just think that there might be given his history, and the sooner you get things going the better.

Good luck!!
