ov test question - help!

This is probably a really daft question, I've searched the threads and can't find what I'm looking for, so I thought maybe you lot could enlighten me...? Smile

I've just done an ov test and for the first time since m/c (16 days ago) there are 2 lines showing rather than just the test line. the thing is, the 2nd line is not quite as dark as the test line - not far off it, but def not as dark. The instructions say that both lines have to be the same to indicate a positive result.

My question is this - could the slightly fainter line indicate that I am about to ovulate, ie not within the next 48 hours, but maybe soon afterwards?

Sorry for being dumb, I'm just trying to get the hang of all this ov testing....

Also, my CM is very like EW, iykwim. I had what I thought was af last week. I am so confused - somebody help!!!

TIA x

Hi there. I've used ov tests quite a lot and found them very helpful as I don't have a completely regular cycle (2 pregnancies in four months of testing). I generally have two lines, but one is much lighter than the other. When the LH surge occurs, the faint line gets much darker, generally matching the control line or even darker. The darkness depends on when I test (as the LH surge is just begining, or when it has reached its peak). If you think the LH surge is begining, but you are not sure, you could always do another test in a few hours and see if the line is darker.

However, a word of warning - ovulation kits aren't necessarily very reliable soon after a miscarriage as they also seem to respond to HCG (the pregnancy hormone). It is possible that the Ov kit is showing a positive sign from the hormones still in your body following your miscarriage. I think the probability of this would depend on how far along you were in your pregnancy when it ended as HCG reaches a peak at about 12 weeks. If you had a early miscarriage (e.g. 6 weeks) then the HCG may be out of your system by now, but if it was later (e.g. 11 weeks) then it might still be around and influencing the result. I had a missed miscarriage at about 11 and a half weeks and I repeatedly tested positive on ovulation kits for about a month. I also tested positive on pregnancy tests for about a month as well. It was very frustrating.

Good luck with it all!

www I have found it varies brand to brand, but agree that with neolara that in my experience it also depends on the time of day. According to the instructions the line should be darker, but I have not found that to be the case with every brand. At one point in the past I used two brands at the same time with the same urine, and they gave different results....(I am a bit of a weirdo actually, because unlike lots of people I actually enjoy temping/checking cm/ov sticks and all that malarky.)
Basically the best thing you can do is have a good old sesh tonight and over the next few days, just for fun, keeping in mind that it might or might not be ovulation. Then carry on watching for signs until af comes (or not, hopefully).

LOL rubles, I did that too!! I am quite a control freak though, so these things are important to me! I too, enjoy TTC thus far because it allows me to make charts/lists and observations. Sad I know, and maybe I'll change further down the line.
Good luck weewilliewinkie.

My ov tests (el cheapo from wilkinsons) say not to use first morn wee and to collect it in a container then wait about 20 mins till it's at room temperature. When I've tested and it's been negative there's only ever been one line but this weekend there were two. I took that to be a +tive ov test regardless of how dark the lines are.

However, if you've seen the ttc march thread you'll know I'm now on cd55 so neolara saying it could mean I'm pg it quite interesting! Maybe I should test...

Hi Ladies..has any of you used the Clearblue Disital OV kits?...I have bought some from Boots but they look really comlicated. Please could you tell me how reliable they are & what's the best way to test with them.

gemmaseascout · 16/03/2006 17:20

digital clearblue ov kits are great. Just put in the stick wee on it and wait. Takes longer but the results are very clear (circle or smiley face!)

Brilmum - i think that the digital ones are excellent!
I've used them for the past 6 months and you just can't mistake it - none of this lighter /darker query.
I found that with other test sticks I would do several to check as often can be unsure. These are a little more expensive but you get seven instead of 5 and there really is no mistaking it -well worth the money.
I also quite like the testing 'cause it makes you feel that bit more in control (even if we aren't!!)
HTH :)
