Baby aspirin? ?

Have just read that baby aspirin is good for fertility..especially if you've suffered a MC.
I suffered a MMC in April this year..& came across this info & was wondering if anyone knows anymore about it or has used it??
It says a tablet of 81mg per tablet per day while ttc...is that right?
Where can this be bought?

confuddled I guess that explains why the hughes foundation seems to fund st thomas' research more than other hospitals!

confuddledDOTcom · 28/08/2012 12:44

Yeah, he fundraises for his own research and helps others out occasionally who ask for it. From the reports back of people who have seen him, he's a lovely guy and very good at his job.

CaptainHoratioWragge · 28/08/2012 13:18

I'm at thomas', have not seen him, hopefully this means i'm not scientifically worthy of his time as i'm not a bad enough case!! :)

I feel so lucky to be there no mentioning name of clueless previous hospital I have hope that this one might make it.

confuddledDOTcom · 28/08/2012 21:42

Have you read his blog? It's on the HSF website, some of the cases he sees are really scarey! I love that he gets these people in with random symptoms that no one knows what to do with or they're treating the symptoms and within weeks he has them on the proper drugs and living life like normal. I've heard of someone with MS going in in a wheelchair and two weeks later walking out of there with no MS - MS drugs are bad for the disease.

Irishmammybread · 30/08/2012 19:05

thank you so much captain and confuddled for all the info.
I've been back at EPU today for a rescan, my MC is still incomplete but I asked the midwife about referral for investigation. She told me if you've had three normal pregnancies they wont consider any workup even if you go on to have three miscarriages in quick succession and any way it was likely to be chromosomal abnormalities causing the problem because of my age.Any pregnancy would only have a 50% chance of making it. That might be true but it was a bit depressing. She did say I could try taking aspirin as soon as my next AF started if we wanted to try again. I'm going to see my GP on Mon so I'll see what she says.(I'll bring my list of the tests you suggested!)I live in the North West of England. We would consider going private if necessary.

confuddledDOTcom · 30/08/2012 19:20

You can request your GP order tests. If you've got a good one just say "I've been reading about different things that can cause recurrant miscarriage, like Hughes Syndrome, maybe it was a bad idea but I can't help worrying about whether there is something because something like that is life long and goes beyond just miscarriage." As you're in your 40s it does increase all the risks of Hughes so it would mean if you had it that you could have been at acceptable levels then but now it's an issue. I should imagine the same would be true of many things.

I have had 3 failed embryo implantations, so am now wondering why my clinic has not suggested baby asprin.

confuddledDOTcom · 10/09/2012 23:16

It depends on why I guess. Mention it to them, it probably can't hurt but I wouldn't do it without letting them know first as it might sound like a small dose (half a tablet a day) but it is enough and can affect your treatment for some things and there are things you may need to know.

KarRose · 13/09/2012 14:36

Hi confuddledDOTcom, thank you for your reply. If we go for it again, I will certainly be mentioning the asprin. Know what you mean, but I would be too scared to just go ahead, I am not that brave. thank you.

confuddledDOTcom · 14/09/2012 17:04

Hi KarRose, not been on much this week so only just read this. You're welcome. Jr Aspirin is a miracle drug, pregnant or not, and people tend to just write it off as a small drug without realising the side effects or the effects on other things, so you're right not to do it on your own. I read a story of a man who had a heart attack and was put on Jr Aspirin, he decided he would use it as an excuse to get fit and part of his new regime was cranberry juice every day but cranberries are also an anticoagulant so he had a stroke. I have to keep reminding my doctors not to give me dispersible Aspirin because taken on a regular basis can cause stomach ulcers. So there's a lot of things to know about taking it, as I said it's a good drug but does need to be taken with doctors being aware, I'm sure unless you're haemophilic they won't stop you though.

coxieone · 16/09/2012 17:04

Hi All. I MC twice (8wk/10wk) and asked my consultant if it was worth trying baby aspirin, he said that it basically wouldn't do any harm so felt it was worth a try so prescribed me 75mg a day, I took these as soon as I found out I was preggers again. I now have a healthy 1 yr old and am 8 wks pregnant with my second child. When I found out I was pregnant this time I went to the super market and bought the aspirin over the counter and just took it. Obviously I have no way of knowing if the drug is the reason for my success but in my mind as long as there is no medical reason for you not to take it then why not give it a try?

confuddledDOTcom · 16/09/2012 17:42

That's pretty much why I take Heparin. Some doctors say I don't need it, I believe I do and other doctors believe that it's better to be able to say you tried than question if it would have helped.

If you're getting it OTC make sure you get the EC version because you don't want an ulcer during pregnancy!

KarRose · 20/09/2012 17:31

Well, we have been to the clinic again and have decided on a fourth and final (emotionally and financially) attempt in the hope that we will be 4th time lucky. I mentioned to the clinic about what I have read on asprin, and they said they are quite happy for me to try asprin along side the steroids this time. I wonder whether they would have mentioned it if I had not! So will keep fingers, toes and everything crossed.

confuddledDOTcom · 20/09/2012 22:14

I hope it all works out well for you! At least you know that you've given everything you can a try.

ashley992 · 01/04/2018 09:39

I had a MMC with twins last month. They stopped growing at around 6 weeks, we found out at 9 weeks and my SMM was performed at 11 weeks. I've read that taking baby aspirin can decrease the chances of miscarriage. I've had two miscarriages previously. The pathology report from the hospital following the SMM said there was nothing unusual about the pregnancy. Has anyone taken the baby aspirin? Thank you.

Papplewapplewoo · 05/04/2018 14:18

HI @ashley992
So sorry to hear of your loss.
This thread is over 5 years old and as a result you might not get many replies to it.
You could start a new threat re baby aspirin (low dose aspirin) and I’m sure some lovely MNers will impart wisdom.
All the best x

ashley992 · 05/04/2018 20:26

Hi @Papplewapplewoo.

Thank you for your message. I did already start a new thread; I posted here accidentally whilst reading through!

hiya, i just wanted to tell you all my story. i have had 2 successful pregnancies with my eldest being 8, my youngest is 2, i have been trying to fall pregnant ever since having my youngest and unfortunately had 3x miscarriages, lasting until i was 6 weeks (had a scan and had lost baby a week later when going bac k for scan)with little as to know why? i have since been referred to gynaecology department and had a blood test, been advised to take 75mg Aspirin including folic acid which should solve my problem, id also have an early scan at 7 weeks instead of 12 to monitor the pregnancy.. i have been taking the tablets a couple of weeks now and keeping my fingers crossed for when i am due PMT as to whether i will be pregnant successfully or not? i have since read some interesting stories on people being prescribed aspirin to help pregnancy and it has worked. i will update you all when i see what happens when due PMT. hope everyone is well! any other stories or info would be a great help also :) x
