Advice would be great - to GP or not to GP?

Hey everyone,

I wondered if anyone could dole out some advice? I'd like to make an appointment with my GP but I don't want to waste her time, so any opinions on my best course of action (or inaction!) would be very much appreciated.

I stopped taking the mini-pill (Cerazette) 5 months ago. Before that I had been using Depo Provera as my contraceptive for around 6/7 years. My last injection was last October and I started taking the mini-pill in December (12 weeks after last Depo shot).

Since stopping any form of contraceptive 5 months ago I haven't had a 'proper' period. I've had 2 instances of spotting (lasting for around 5 days) but the last instance of this was about 50 days ago. I'm not pregnant and I doubt that I'm even ovulating.

I now wonder whether I should make an appointment to discuss this with my GP. I've basically had 5 months without a period. Will she be able to run any tests at this point, or do I need to just wait things out a little longer?

Thanks in advance for any advice - I'm a wee bit unsure of what I should do.

When I came off the depo they were very clear that it would take up to 18 months for it to come out of my system - if your shot ran out in December, potentially you've got another 12 months until it comes out.

You can make an appointment, but I suspect that's what they'll say to you.

I would go to the GP and discuss this at more length.

Hmm, okay. Thanks for the responses guys.

I suppose I could wait another month, make an appointment and see what the GP says with the expectation that I might be told to come back in another year. There is so much conflicting info out there about Depo maybe I should get the GP's stance on it...

Thanks again.

If you didn't want to go to the gp, does your practice have a specialist family planning nurse? She might he worth having a chat to?
