PCOS with cycles 27-42 days long - when should I POAS?

Afternoon all

Have only just started TTC and having PCOS had thought things might take a while.

Luckily (!) I always know when I'm ovulating as have plenty of EWCM. Started at the right time and now, 9 days after DTD, feel aggressively sick, tired and need to wee more than usual. Felt so alarmingly nauseated with pounding heart this morning that I left work but am feeling largely normal again now.

From what I've read this is all way too early to be having symptoms. Although it was probably a bit daft, I bought a test on the way home which was negative.

My difficulty is knowing when to test again. My cycles are all over - can go from 27 days one month to 42 the next. If I wait until the longest possible date it'll be end of August. I suppose the sensible answer is to wait until then but I'd like to know if I have a baby or a nasty bug at this point!

Any advice from PCOS ladies very gratefully received :)

hi nibblonian,

from what I understand your luteal phase should stay fairly consistent (which is the time from ovulating to AF) it is the time from post AF to ovulating which varies. If you know when you ovulate then i think you should probably POAS at 14 DPO.

Hope this helps but i'm no expert.

Thanks bodi, that's pretty much as I understand it too but I think my luteal phase has varied by a few days before. To be honest though, I lose track. Have been recording the total length of each cycle but not the vagaries of it!

I know measuring temperature and all that business is less helpful for those with PCOS so haven't bothered.

Guess I'd better learn to develop my patience on this one.

Very frustrating with PCOS and patience is not my strong point. At least now my cycles are varying 28 - 38 days whereas they used to be 4 - 7 months. I am trying temping this time as no idea when I ovulate so might help me learn to recognise so signs. Good luck!

I usually poas around 14 days after ewcm as that's the only way I can tell when I ovulate. Usually I'm right as af usually turns up 14 days after I think i ovulated! Even though my cycles can be anything from 30-60 days long! Sorry a lot of usuallys in this post - but nothings set in stone with pcos and cycles is it?!?!
