I've got one, but it's on the outside wall of the uterus..

As far as I understand (just from reading the internet), the ones most likely to interfere with fertility are the ones actually inside the uterus, but I remember reading that intermural ones could also cause problems. Generally it seemed fibroids weren't a major cause of infertility though..

I would get it scanned and ask the doc if you're concerned, wish you all the best! Keep us posted..

Jane I too have them and was told it was nothing worry about with my mc. They monitor you through pg. I too have googled it and reports are basically inconclusive hence drs etc say don't worry we will monitor. Could you contact your dr and ask about the severity and if treatment is needed. I have read that sometimes they can remove them too but I think its just one of the "muddy waters" subjects.

Best of luck Jane

thanks for that. I am waiting for a consultants appointment as I have just had an ultrasound and hsg. But as it was 3 weeks away I thought I would look into it first.

hi, I also have a fibroid, but is on the outside of uterus so shouldn't interfere with fertility. As gemmitygem says the ones that can cause problems is those on the inside of the uterus as can interfere with inplantation (basically the area where the fibroid is, an egg cannot implant).

There is not a lot of stats available about fibroids or whether they do affect fertility so only definite thing drs can tell you about them depends on where they are.

They also don't recommend removing them unless are causing health problems or are definitley impeding fertility. hope this helps

I've got fibroids both inside the womb and intramural. They didn't prevent me conceiving ds on first attempt, and having a successful pregnancy (but not birth - the fact I had fibroids at all was only picked up after I'd been cut open for an emergency cs after 23 hours of agonising labour).

Fibroids vary so much in size and position that my doctor couldn't give me advice about what to do without extensive tests. Now that I've had these, I've been advised to do nothing. The other possible options were (1) cut them out, which is a major operation, and (2) take pills to reduce the blood supply to them so that they shrink, but the pills have side effects.

I have been told that diet can affect them, but I don't know enough about this.

Hi Jane13, I take it your consultant has told you the fibroid is effecting your fertility..did he say how it is affecting it. Can I ask what your monthly cycle is like...fibroids can cause heavy bleeding and also spotting before and after.

The web info I have read states that there is no real evidence how fibroids affect fertility but if it is there is the option of removing which is a major operation and worst case scenario is haemorraging which can result in hysterectomy

Thanks for all the responses. I was getting freaked by the stuff on the net that was saying about definite links with infertility and miscarriages.

I haven't seen consultant since I got the results of my hsg and ultrasound, both of which mentioned fibroids. So I shall see what he says. I conceived ds1 first go, then have been ttc for 7 months this time, started to go for blood tests as am nearly 40 which showed I didn't ovulate for at least 2 months then I had a miscarriage. These are probably all random things but I do tend to over research things and look at the worse case scenario. I do have regular periods and no bleeding in between.

wait to hear what your consultant has to say before start worrying about the fibroid. I know someone whose womb was literally covered in fibroids of all sizes and she as 3 boys and going for number 4!

I'm the same, read everything on web and think it all applies to me...I've stopped doing so much reading!

I'm an older mum to (38 in a couple of months) and that also goes against us with regards to higher chance of m/c.
