Help! LH:FSH Day 3 test shows raised LH level - is this normal or not?

Hi - I've got a possible problem with my periods/ovulation and have just had the results from a Day 3 blood test. My LH is 13.3 and my FSH is 7.9.
Now, sorry for this ramble of post, but the doctor has added a note on the test printout to say that my LH is apparently "slightly high but essentially normal", with a "normal FSH: LH ratio" (I haven't yet seen the doctor in order for her to explain this comment).
My concern is that the Reference range given on the LH test printout is 'Follicular 2.4 - 12. 6' , 'Mid-cycle 14.0 95.6' - so I am outside both ranges (assume I should be in the Follicular range as it's Day 3 of my period). Also, not sure what the actual ratio is (maths was never a stong point!), but know that it's not 1:1 (the ideal ratio) that's for sure.
Again, this is hardly a scintillating post but I'm hoping that someone can give me a steer on how concerned I should be or whether this is in fact an entirely normal range, with no hint of pcos or possible conception problems to come. Thanks.

LH and FSH are basically supposed to be the same.

What you have here is an imbalance between LH and FSH. A higher level of LH to FSH is one possible indicator of hormonal problems. In this regard either polycystic ovaries or its related syndrome (PCOS) are common culprits.

I would ask for a referral to a gynae in such circumstances so that you can get a definitive diagnosis.

Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) Day 3 3-20 mIU/ml FSH is often used as a gauge of ovarian reserve. In general, under 6 is excellent, 6-9 is good, 9-10 fair, 10-13 diminished reserve, 13+ very hard to stimulate. In PCOS testing, the LH:FSH ratio may be used in the diagnosis. The ratio is usually close to 1:1, but if the LH is higher, it is one possible indication of PCOS.

Luteinizing Hormone (LH) Day 3 < 7 mIU/ml A normal LH level is similar to FSH. An LH that is higher than FSH is one indication of PCOS.

Thanks MeerkatsUnite - you always know your stuff, thanks. My worry is that the doctor, who I've yet to see, already seems to have written off the idea that I should be referred, given the comment of "slightly high but essentially normal". The information I've found on the internet isn't as expansive on LH as FSH (I've been looking for something akin to the info you've given on FSH ie this LH range is excellent, whilst this LH range is pretty dreadful!, etc). So I'm not really feeling very clued up as to whether to push for referral if the doctor sticks with the "slightly high/but normal" line. My results seem to be in a grey area.

Friend had a high FSH result recently and went on a liver cleansing diet. She had a bladder infection when she took the test which may have contributed to higher result.

It is ok now - so liver cleansing diet may have worked, if a person has "liver heat"
