Marina coil being removed

MightBeSlightlyMad · 02/08/2012 11:33

I'm having my Marina coil out tomorrow morning, i've notice a couple of posts where people have conceived the same month as having there copper coils removed, was hoping to be able to try this month. I have had the coil for almost 7 years (on my second one) and have never had periods with them so have no idea where i am in my cycle in regards to ovulation. I was told some people don't release a egg at all with the Marina coil.

Was going to use opk to try and help work out my cycle.

Would appreciate any help, advice and guidence.

Mirena coils prevent ovulation in most cases.

I had mine removed mid January and did not have any signs of ovulation. The month after and since I have- cycle regulated very quickly. I fell pregnant a couple of cycles later but sadly had a mc so back ttc now.

Good luck

Thanks Dexidoo for your reply, i'm so sorry about your mc, hope you conceive again soon.

I had mine removed 3 weeks ago after 5 1/2 years and no periods. Had a light bleed after it came out for a few days and a tiny bit of spotting 3 days ago. Thought it might be period starting because it always used to be at the end if the month but there's been nothing since.

When I hadit removed the dr said I'd have some spotting and then to expect a period in about 4 weeks so I'm expecting it at the end of next week.

Incidentally I've had a few pg symptoms from early on after removal- felt sick and yesterday kept weeing and ive got a weird pre-sneeze stuffy nose all the time, but I think my imagination is on overdrive. I tried an ovulation stick a few times and each time there has been a line but not dark enough to be positive and I haven't done them consistently. I'm going to try and pay attention to my cycle after my period.

My experience was that I had mine removed what turned out to be mid-cycle, had AF then fell pregnant that month. I mc'd too unfortunately, but fell again a couple of months later. Am 8 weeks now :)

When I had mine removed, the nurse told me not to have unprotected sex for 7 days prior to removal as possible to get pregnant immediately - if we had DTD within the previous week there could still be sperm swimming around up there Hmm

I have started charting, as we are planning on TTC in a few months but I fancied a few months hormone-free first, I have been able to clearly tell since my first AF after having Mirena out when I ovulate. Good luck :)

Thanks for your replies

peacocklady it good to hear what your dr told you, mine was taken out earlier today by a nurse and was told when i made the appointment that if i had alot of questions i'd have to make a seperate appointment with a dr. fx that you get a bfp soon.

backwardpossom it's good to know it can happen fairly quickly, was a little concerned about how long the hormone would stay in my system, congratulations on expecting and sorry for your previous mc.

Well I read that the best time to do opk is about 3 pm so I did one today at that time and it was positive so now I'm confused as it's 3 weeks after removal! The test was a cheap one but the test line definitely darker. No funny symptoms today. Anyway going to jump dh tonight!
Good luck to you too x

Thanks rockchick i've never really payed attension to my bodys signs of ovulation before but have read that some people get aches and pains, note to self must pay attension to my body, i've ordered some opk off the internet so i can start tracking my cycle straight away, want us to get pregnant as soon as possible.
Good luck to you

I had mine removed, the nurse said not to ttc that month, as it was then hard to date the pregnancy... but we did anyway :o

I had a slight bleed and did ovulate that first month (was using tests off amazon)
I'd had the coil in for 4 years and no periods in that time.
I then had the period from hell and ended up pregnant in the second month.

Good luck :)

ifIsaynodontjustaskdad · 03/08/2012 21:19

I had mine removed to see if that was what was causing my migraines, foolishly didn't listen to Dr explaining that I could get pregnant straight away, thought I'd be fine until after first period as hadn't had any since dd2 was born and Dh was scheduled to have snip that week.... His op got postponed a week, and dc3 is due next week. Oops.

I also have a friend who managed to be the 0.01% who conceive with it in.

I loved my coil, but I have endometriosis so pretty much anything is nicer than that.

Hiya

I had my Mirena out on 12th June and got pregnant 2 weeks later!! Was a bit of a shock it happened so fast and obviously wasn't trying too hard as had no idea when I would ovulate (have never had periods with it). But unfortunately I miscarried last week Sad. With hindsight I would have waited to have one period just to give my body a chance to self regulate. Back to TTC now and hoping it happens quickly again after my next period Wink. Good luck!!

Sorry for all of you who have suffered a loss, we were so fortunate. I had the mirena coil removed and had DS3 42 weeks to the day it came out (he was 2 weeks overdue). My GP has always said she felt a little bit responsible for DS3. We had never concieved so quickly in the past so I was quite amazed and DH was seriously pissed off

MightBeSlightlyMad · 04/08/2012 09:21

Thank you to everyone who has replied, i really appreciate hearing your experiences.

I'm sorry almond for your loss.

I've loved my coil, used several types of contraceptions and this has been far and away the best.

This has been an interesting thread, with so many of us having mc in the first couple of cycles after removal. I wonder whether this is above the 'usual' mc rate.

Here's hoping for healthy pregnancies for us all soon.

kate2boysandabump · 04/08/2012 10:20

I had mine out in December, I had some irregular bleeding for a week or so and then things settled down into a regular cycle and I conceived at the end of March, 21 weeks today Smile

frustratedpants · 04/08/2012 11:04

Hi mightbe I had mine out 3 cycles ago. Bled 3 days later and took my cycles to start from then. OPKed the 2nd cycle which picked up Ov.

The 1st cycle I experienced a lot of pg symptoms, nausea, cramping, dizzy spells but a bfn, and heavy AF. Did google search and discovered that this is common on having it removed.

2nd cycle. OPK picked up LH surge but no EWCM.

MightBeSlightlyMad · 05/08/2012 10:27

Congratulations Kate and fx crossed for you frustratedpants that you'll get a bfp soon. My opk have arrived, just using the cheap ones from amazon.

It's been good to see that it's more than possible to fall pregnant fairly quickly.
