natural cycle FET - timmings

Hi

I am due to have natural cycle FET in a few weeks. Decided this as I think it will be less stresful on the body and I appear to have good hormone levels / regular cycles.

My clinic are getting me back in for transfer the day after the LH surge. So about the time of ovulation. This surprised me as I though blastocysts (5 day old embie) need to be transfered around 5 days post ovulation to be provided with an adequate uterine environment.

I was under the impression that each day of the leutal phase is slightly different and the womb lining has receptivity some days more than others?

Clinic seem to think popping the blast back early gives it more time to adjust to the new environment.

Anyone had natural cycle FET? What day did you transfer and why?
Also, any success strories about natural FET would be much appreciated - tips as well.

Thanks Sarlat

I had a cancelled natural cycle FET. Only cancelled because my one and only frostie failed to thaw Sad

My clinic does all FET on natural cycles if the woman has a regular cycle.

Ov was taken to be the day after LH surge, which makes sense. Frozen blastocyst transfer was scheduled for 5 days after ov - as my clinic said to ensure the timing was perfect and the blastocyst was being put back at the same point it would enter the uterus if a natural conception.

Embryologist told me the environment in the Fallopian tubes is quite different to the uterus. But then again day 2 and day 3 embryo transfers do work so perhaps a few days difference doesn't matter too much.

Sorry mine wasn't a success story. Just wanted to answer your q about timings.

I just realised I sounded horribly insensitive. Really didn't mean to.

Hay Knackered

You weren't insensative at all! Thanks so much for your reply and I'm sorry your FET didn't work out.

But your information backs up my confusion - surely the womb linning is thicker and better adjusted to receive a blast a few days after ovulation. The day of ovulation seems really early. Do you think she is mixing me up with IUI patients or even natural cycle IVF patients. Because they would need to come at the time of ovulation I should think.

HMMMM - think I will ask my clinic to show me the evidence for this one.

So, how are things with you Kanckered? Are you moving on to another IVF cycle?

Sar

Sar. You could well be right. One of my close friends did IUI and she had timed insemination after 36 hours after trigger shot - or when ov would happen. Definitely question them. Can you speak to embryology? They might be able to answer your questions better.

AFM - I went on to have two further fresh IVF cycles. No frosties from cycle 2. I am 8+1 today with twins Grin

Wow Knackered - that is so exciting about your twins. Massive congratulations!! I bet you can't beleive it after all you have been through. This does give me hope!!!

And just goes to show it does work!

That is a great idea about contacting the embryologists - I will do just that.

Sorry, one last cheeky question. IS there anything you think you did differetly with the last cycle to swing things in your favour? I am trying the 'chilled and happy' approach even if its a bit forced. It is so hard to stay posItIve when all this is going on.

Good luck with the pregnancy. Can't wait for your birth story!!! xx

I was fed up by the time we got to cycle number three and so DH and I broke every rule in the book.

We went to France on holiday just before we started. Drank a LOT of wine every day for two weeks.

I also continued to drink (moderately) throughout my first half of my IVF cycle and had my last glass of wine two days before embryo transfer.

I also continued with caffeine and again didn't cut down until embryo transfer.

Moved house one week after the cycle finished too! That took my mind off it.

More seriously, I honestly just think it's just down to luck. If you can conceive via IVF you will, but it can take a few cycles. Failure is most likely to be down to embryo quality and that's influenced by so many factors, most of which you have no control over. I think the best attitude to have is to expect it to take up to three or four cycles at the outset. Easier said than done though...

Wishing you lots of luck!
