Very Low AMH but Normal FSH

Has anyone had experience of this? My AMH was tested 18 months ago and it was 17 which i was told was low for my age (31 at the time). However I have just been told my results are now down to 3.5. Obviously shocked that in 18 months it has fallen off a cliff edge. My FSH is 6.5 though which isn't suggestive of the menopause.
Has anyone come across this problem before? Any positive stories??

Hi Joycep I just wanted to give this a bump because I also would be interested to hear others experiences.

Hello there

After having a prolactin-secreting, titchy pituitary tumour corrected through medication (it stopped ovulation for a couple of years), the fertility clinic ran an AMH test on me and, aged 38, I was told my score was very low - 2 - :( My FSH was normal but I was told that my chances of conception were negligible. Peri-menopause was mentioned. They signed us off. We were absolutely devastated.

However, the good news is that, three months after being given that terrible news, I found myself to be pregnant... I'm coming up 18 weeks now.

So, don't give up hope. It can happen, even with an extremely low AMH score.

Positive? I think so :)

Hello - were your tests undertaken at the same place ? I only ask because I understand that there are in fact two different measuring units for the test which can cause confusion if you try and compare the two.

In my case - I had my first AMH reading at the beginning of the year as part of initial fertility investigations and was told it was 18.4 and 'on the low side' (I'm 34). Was subsequently referred for IVF where the clinic ran their own test citing that they 'didn't like relying on the other measurement'. Their result came back as 9 (which was referred to as 'ok'). Can't remember what my FSH result was (but 8 is ringing a bell).

For what it's worth I'm not entirely convinced that the AMH test is conclusive of anything Hmm

All the best to you.

x

thank you both for replying. Elastic - what a fabulous story and thank you for posting. It is very comforting and uplifting to hear stories that it can still happen.

missbrightside - oh really i didn't realise there were different measurement. I didn't have them done by the same place though. It seems the jury is out on AMH i think. Some people place a huge amount of emphasis on it and others don't see it as significant. However, all i know is 3.5 at the age of 32 is pretty bad.

Joycep do not give up hope AMH is often used to give an idea and in assisted fertility is used to gave how much medication is needed. Friend had AMH of 0.53 and delivered dd last week natural conception

joycep · 27/07/2012 07:31

Thank you bugsy - that is very uplifting story. I will remember that.

Joycep, Apart from ignoring paying little attention to what the medics say, the best piece of advice we were given from friends who'd gone through similar crap was, "it's all about the shagging"... apologies for the crudeness!

(oh, and I've no idea whether it helped or not, but I had acupuncture and reflexology too)

All the best to you.

joycep · 27/07/2012 10:58

Elastic - just to be crude too, I am shagged out! It has been over 2 years and over 30cycles. Sigh. I am on the acupuncture. I may look at reflex, thanks. Other than that I think I need the finger of god to point down our way!! But yours & bugsy's friend gives me hope.
