Could this be an ectopic pregnancy?

Hi,

Last week I did a pg test on 13dpo and got a -ive, then had what I assumed was a normal period.

But my boobs still felt sore and not quite right. So on what I thought was cd6 I did another pg test and got a +ive straight away.

But then started bleeding again, on and off with cramping, sometimes in one side, sometimes all across my abdomen and sometimes in my lower back. The blood is often red in the morning and then goes darker as the day goes on.

Having had a mc before, I was assuming that it was that as my first hcg levels are quite low (having the next bloods done tomorrow) but I've since read that a few people have had what they thought was a period and it turned out to be ectopic.

The pain is definitely in one side of my back more than the other. The pain is relatively mild but I would only be about 5 weeks 4 days pg. Now I'm starting to think that the blood may be a very dark red as opposed to brown and I'm a bit worried.

Hiya, I recently had an ectopic. They should be able to get some idea from your blood results. If they are concerned about your HCG levels (if they are higher than expected), they may do serial bloods, which might suggest an ectopic. It may be too early to tell though. Apparently only a small percentage of ectopics are visible on a scan of the fallopian tubes so they often go by HCG levels.

I had what I though was a miscarriage at 5+3 weeks, had brown discharge for a week followed by period type bleeding for a week. Then when I had a scan at what would have been 8 weeks it showed no retained products in my uterus. However, my HCG levels were still quite high (normal for not pregnant is 0-5, mine were 963). it can take 4-6 weeks for HCG to drop following miscarriage though so they needed to do a series of bloods, every 48 hours to see if they're going up or down. Down, ideally halving every 48 hours, would indicate normal miscarriage, up or only very slightly down could suggest ectopic if nothing is seen in the uterus on a scan.

Sorry this may not be very useful but can only tell you my experience. Hope everything turns out ok. It doesn't necessarily sound ectopic but if you have concerns, it's important you tell them when you get your bloods done tomorrow.
